Hatton, training on Lager again

My pal has just got back from his hols in Corfu and showed me a great picture of one Mr Ricky Hatton absolutely pissed and off his head in a bar over there.
Funny but a disgrace really for a professional to act this way. He was telling anyone that would listen that he was pissed off with Boxing and all the shit going on at home with his family too.
Looked more like a Chav than a two-time World champ.

So how does he want to get back down to 140 with this diet.

Why? He isn't training for a fight he's allowed to have fun. At least he's approachable and down-to-earth enough to chat to normal guys with honesty.

I dont think its a disgrace maybe not a smart career move though.
He's never failed to make weight, and has a history of this.At least he's not smashing his motor into folk now that'll be a disgrace.

Hatton might like a beer but he's never failed to make the weight and when in the ring theres not many fitter fighters out there, he must be doing something right.

I saw him in Vegas in June lining up the Guinesses, a friend saw him in Marbella a few weeks later pissed up. Seems in the long months between training he just jetsets around the world getting shitfaced.
It's absolutely no way for a top class athlete in such a punishing sport to carry on but as been said he always seems to prepare well when he has to and it's just his own career he's shortening. Not smart but totally up to him.

It works for him so let him have his beer life. He deserves it.

Hes still 1 of the sports fittest. He obviously cuts it out for his 12week camps and the weight flys off.

I met him in the la manga complex in Spain 3 years ago.He was propped up against the bar then,he even started chatting up my ex-girlfriends mum!!!(she was a milf though!!)He was the worse for wear but still had time to chat with a few people who approached him.
I think it's well known that Hatton has always done this throughout his career, going out and living it up in between fights.
The problem he has now is that he only seems to fight 2 times a year, giving him more time on the piss.Thats the problem.
A guy with Hatton's lifestyle should try getting in the ring 4-5 times a year, would keep him off the drink and fatty grub.

Do most fighters avoid the drink between fights?

As someone else has pretty much said, he's got one of the best workrates in boxing, so he's doing something right. He's always in tip-top shape when he enters the ring which is what matters in my eyes.
I didn't see Hatton being slagged off for his weight by other promo companies when he was a SN boxer, there's fornicate all wrong with enjoying a pint or 2 or......

Well two of his boxing heros were well known for living it large between fights too, Duran and Chavez, and they didn't do too badly.

Yep, Duran used to hit 200 lbs between fights apparently, so Ricky's got some way to go yet to emulate his hero. Chavez apparently was a pretty chronic alchie.

I always wonder just how much drinking does affect boxers - after reading that Hopkins was totally t-total and once asked for some pasta not to be cooked in a red wine sauce, I wonder if he would have been able to carry on boxing if he had been boozing?
I would love to see Hatton fighting 4 times a year, which I don't think is impossible.

Sounds like more 'axe to grind' observations to me.
Spoke to Ray Hatton on Friday. He said Ricky would be going for a 15-week camp for his next bout, although conceded the first three would be merely ticking over.
The lad is on holiday and should be allowed to blow off steam.

Actually I would say Hatton is on the decline, and its because of his lifestyle combined with fighting twice a year instead of the 5times a year previously, since the Tyszu fight hes dropped down a level. He looked declined against Maussa and Collazo. I rate Collazo very highly all the same. I also question if he has the same desire as pre-Tyszu - he hit the mountain top already.
I think a primed Hatton beats Cotto and Margarito and gives PBF nightmares (but loses). A Hatton that is missing a step quite probably losses to them all.

I would have to say Hatton doesn't look as sharp or agile as he used to. He took a lot of shots against Maussa which seemed totally unneccesary, and really didn't look sharp against Collazo. I think this is more likely to be down to fighting less often than anything else. There seem to be some stylistic changes too which make him easier to hit. Maybe it's because the fighters he is fighting are more ambitious also.

John Conteh was a massive pi55head but still had a very credible world championship career. Mickey Walker is another example, from a by gone era.
The question you must ask though is how much better could these fighters have been if they stayed off the beer?

Saw Ray Hatton chatting to Jim Watt and Adam Smith on friday evening, it was just as Witter arrived actualy, they glanced at each other then proceeded their different ways.
Its entirely up to Ricky how he spends his spare time. It'll reduce his life span as a boxer but I doubt he'll be short of a bob or two or alternative work.

Hopkins is a Muslim, therefore no booze for him

I think Conteh said himself that his penchant for partying shortened his career and lessened his achievements.
I think with most of these guys, they are such phenomenal athletes that they are able to get away with abusing their bodies, and with the likes of Chavez and Duran had long careers.
What is remarkable about Chavez is how consistent a performer he was considering all that, but then he fought regularly during his reigns which must have helped, Duran too had a lot of fights.
Modern pisshead fighters often have almost a year between fights.

Is he? I don't remember hearing that. How did that one slip under the radar? Hang on, he was wearing a cross round his neck at one press conference, how can he be a muslim?
