Mike McTigue

McTigue is a guy that I have been curious about. He seems to be someone that is respected; often you will see his named mentioned in passing a as tough opponent that someone fought.
However, rarely do you hear someone talk about him in detail. He isn't in the International Boxing Hall of Fame or even the World boxing Hall of Fame (Which is more lenient regarding who gets in).
His career (79-27-8) isn't particularly impressive. However many of his losses were late in his career and many were to qualty opponents. He has a few nice wins; but nothing exceptional. He beat Battling Siki to win the lightheavyweight title, and also beat Berlanbach. He also beat heavyweight Johnny Risko, and middleweight Tiger Flowers (who weighed in at a few pounds over the middleweight limit in their fight)
So how good was he? I ranked him as #37 alltime lightheavyweight a while back but I really wasn't sure where to put him. I don't recall anyone having any major objections.
What style of fighter was he?
Was he comparable to any modern fighter? Or any other fighter for that matter?
Let me know what you think.
