Baldomir v Mosley?

Just been reading that Sycuan promotions have been talking to the Mosley camp. I can see this fight happening, as Baldomir probably would fancy his chances better against Mosley than Mayweather, rightly or wrongly. It's also a big money fight, and I reckon he can negotiate a better deal with Mosley, who would see a win over Baldomir as the chance to break back into the big time. With a belt to his name, he would be able to make a case to fight Mayweather, and if he managed to pull of the win (which unlike some I find highly doubtful), he could even get a shot at golden balls.

Question is, can Mosley beat Baldomir, presuming he could make weight. You'd have to give him a fair chance against a guy as limited as that, and considering that Shane would be back at his natural weight and would have edges in skills, speed and punching power, not to mention big fight experiece. Shane has never lost to anyone with such a poor skill set, and looks to have enough left to overcome the rugged but basic Baldomir.

Mosley's issue may be that Carlos can take any punch Shane throws, and Shane isn't as mobile as other guys with fast hands. He stands in the pocket a lot and can be very flat footed, which would let Baldomir stand and exchange. Shane has an OK chin, but you can't put a dent in Baldomir's. Shane has never been very successful when it comes to decisions.

PS: Did they discuss next year, or later this year?

Well he got two decisions over DLH!

Yes, it's true he's not likely to hurt Baldomir, but Baldomir doens't have the skills of Winky Wright or Vernon Forrest, both of whom outboxed shane rather than outworked him. Vernon kept spearing him on the way in, and Winky did the same. Baldomir does have a decent jab though which could be enought.

No timescales, just given as a probable opponent. I can see Baldomir's camp going for Shane though.

Shane would win easily, as would PBF, Shane already turned down PBF so he doesnt want that 1. This fight could happen though - Mosley has no one else in mind

James do you actually have a job anymore? You're on here all the time and when your not your searching to see if 50cent was ever a pro boxer and such.

I heard they were going after Mayweather and a yea/nay answer would be available by week's end...which means the middle of next month.

having beat Judah and now Gatti, my guess is that Baldomir will want paying well, and Mayweather will be too greedy to give him what he wants, Mosley has limited options at this stage of his career.

If Mosley beats Baldomir, I think he will be more likely to take on Mayweather, as he knows with a belt he is more likely to get nearer purse parity.

Mosley would beat Baldomir with a lot to spare. Ok Shane might not be able to hurt Baldomir (I think he could though) but no way Baldomir hurts Shane. Carlos hasn't got the stamina, skills or power to beat Mosley. Props for beating Gatti and Judah but there are a lot of welterweights out there who would beat him imo (Mosley, Floyd, Collazo, Hatton, Margarito, Quintana, Judah in a rematch)

When Gatti was boxing off the backfoot he looked comfortable against Baldomir, Shane is a lot more comfortable with this kind of boxing

you'd have to make Mosley favourite over Baldomir, he seems superior in nearly all departments, I'd say that Baldomir has a better chin, but Mosley isn't easily hurt either. I'd be looking at Mosley to use his fast hands and better movement to pound out a points win.

Saying that though , there is no way i would have picked Baldomir to win on points over Judah, I can't think of anyone who did pick that one right before the match.
At the moment Baldomir is at the top of his game, and after his last 2 wins his confidence must be sky high, i'm always happy to see a guy like Baldomir get his day in the limelight, and a good payday.

Baldomir is the name everyone is after, because he looks beatable for the least risk, i have not heard many boxers trying to hard to get Margarito into the ring.

Baldomir's is a good story, picked as the fall guy for Superego Judah, who thought his name guaranteed a win, he prevailed when Judah realised his supposedly dynamite fists had no effect on his granite chin, and has since just kept focussed and got on with it. Now he stands on the brink of a very nice retirement fund, and a minor place in history if he manages to beat Mosley.

Unlike Judah and Gatti, Mosley is still fit, strong and will come in focussed and raring to go. Judah was relying on his big punches to do the work and wasn't prepared for a hard fight, and Gatti simply wasn't big strong or near his peak enough

Mayweather knows a good thing though. He took on Corrales for less, and Gatti for less, and to get the title, something I'm sure Shane would want, he'd gladly take less. Baldomir is a very winnable fight for Floyd, and the fact it would give him a gigantic bargaining chip leads me to believe he'd take the fight for less money. He won't need 8 to get in with Carlos.

there's a big reason mosley has kept his trap shut about mayweather. dlh is his boss and dlh is flirting with the idea of a soap opera-cum-fight with mayweather in order to earn the mythical million PPv buys from gullible fans

It's gonna be the gullible fans who give the biggest fight in boxing in a couple years over a million buys.

IMO PBF vs Baldomir is a mismatch, Carlos is limited and one dimensional.....Gatti should have beat him and any decent Welter will......Anyone who think's Baldomir is a genuine word champ should see a shrink.

Well you better book my in to see the shrink!
Just because Baldomir keeps winning when he shouldn't have doesn't make him any less of a World champ. Yes we can see he's not the most skilled boxer around , but he's beaten the people put in front of him, for the belts, Baldomir can't do more than that.

O.K so PBF would probably beat him handily, but then PBF would beat nearly every boxer in the welter or light welter division handily, but i think Baldomir deserves his chance at PBF, win or lose Baldomir gets a great payday.

Exactly, he's not the most skilled in the division but til someone beats him he is still the champ.

Just because we think many other fighters would beat him doesn't make him any less genuine

Errrm, he beat Judah when he was the proper champ, unlike Floyd.

Tall rangy guy with very good power for someone so thin. He has a good chin, and he needs it because his defense isn't spectacular by any means. He looked strong in his last fight against another undefeated prospect, but he was gettin hit with some bombs, but was standing the whole time. He ended up beating a very tough fighter by late TKO, and really put himself out there calling out Margarito.

Mosley is too slow to get near Mayweather these days. Mayweather is also a far better all around fighter. Although Mosley can box and has good skills, he has always been a lot more hittable than mayweather, and doesn't fight well off the back foot. At his peak at 135, him and Mayweather would have been a great fight, due to Mosley's exceptional speed, straight punching and good power, a fight for the ages that one.

I think Baldomir would find it hard to nick a win over Mosley, but cannot see Shane giving Mayweather anything more than a decent tussle now at 147, he'll lose by a wide decision.

Margarito has been called out by Jose Antonio Rivera, the junior middle champ. I'd like to see this fight. I wonder if King will bite. Put Jose in big fights, in his home town, and he might be able to quit the day job!

Not to mention Margarito was called out by Sharmba Mitchell, Paul Williams, and Ishe Smith as well.

It's not in Margarito's interests to move up to 154 though.
