Branco Thrashes Siaca

119-109 on all three cards.

Branco's longevity is phenomenal; he's 40 years old next month. Branco will join Foreman, Hill, and Hopkins (and I believe there are one or two more out there) for owning a belt (even though its just an interim title) passed the age of 40.

well the opponent wasnt anything special, and there was a very dodgy situation going on with the canvas, which was like an ice-rink.branco and his entourage were up to their usual intimidation and dirty tactics.at one point one of his men threw a full bottle of water at siaca during the fight, narrowly missing him.
branco is nothing but a bully, with some very dodgy connections.would love to see him try it on with calzaghe.

Will Kessler fans still say Siaca is underated for beating Mundine now? :o

Maybe he is but for his age he has some seriously quick hands and a tremendous engine. You don't end up like that without putting some serious graft in for a lot of years.

Siaca is a level above anyone Calzaghe fought in 2004 and 2005, two years that were absolutely pitiful to watch & which SN should be embarrassed about. Most ppl thought he was hard done by to have lost twice to Byron Mitchell, and he beat Mundine so that makes him good.

Right now none of us know the circumstances of his loss to Branco. Seems as though no one has seen the fight. Anyhow, Branco has been a good fighter, he has a one sided win over Robin Reid & nearly beat Fabrice Tiozzo.

apart from last night ive never seen siaca fight.i saw his record was 20-5-1,and he came in looking a bit soft in comparison to branco who always is in perfect condition. siaca never got started due to the fact that he was slipping and sliding all over the place.there was a fight before between piccrilo and messi, where although he recieved a boxing lesson and was getting hammered, messi walked out of the fight as he kept doing the splits on the slippery surface.if siaca is the type of fighter with a wide stance (like messi) he was at a big disadvantage over branco who keeps his feet quite close together and uses his arms and shoulders almost exclusively to generate power.siaca complained all the way thro the fight to the ref,and nobody did a thing about it.at the end of the fight his boots werecovered in glove tape in a desperate attempt to get some kind of traction from the canvas. siaca was mugged. i keep saying this...beware when you fight for a title in italy, cos they will try everything (big and small) to fornicate you up,and give their man all the advantages. i would also be interested in checking the round and break times since it seemed to me that sometimes after a strong round from branco the break was only about 45 seconds long.siaca was never in the fight.

Don't forget Jersey Joe Walcott and Hagler was supposedly older than he lets on.

interesting.

yes, in Italy it can be dodgy. I remember Herol Graham dropping Sumbu Kalambay twice, then getting 2 point deductions for minor infractions (around 1992). Also, Johnny Nelson was defending his WBO cruiser title vs Cantatore last year. Cantatore's wife - i think - was promoting. Nelson was winning everything for 8 or 9 rounds. Cantatore scored a flash knockdown, and the round went on for about a whole minute after the 3 mins were over.

The same thing happened to Branco when he fought Tiozzo in France. He kept slipping on the mat. As the say, tough sh*t. It would favour Siaca if anything, as Manny plods straight in and doesnt use any footwork at all, whereas Branco likes to stick and move as well as brawl. There were regular updates about this fight at http://www.Mondoboxe.com.

Eleven rounds to one is a whooping if Ive ever seen one.

yes the Tiozzo-Branco was officiated dreadfully. Might have been a classic if that f-ucking ref would've done something about those gloves. al i can remember is bandages hanging off like a full roll of toilet paper.

Yeah and Calzaghe is leagues above Siaca and he never took Mitchell the distance.

Well my opinion has changed about Mundine since he beat Green anyway.

Cantatore's fight with Braithwaite was terrible too...Italian ref was terrible and did everyhting he could to rob Wayne, who won anyway.

Italy is the dregs of Europe for crooked officiating, etc (maybe football too!)

I thought that one was a highly entertaining fight, although surely that ref saw the loose tape on Tiozzo's gloves at the time, it was pretty dangerous actually as either fighter couldve stepped on it.

That wouldve been something else--Branco feints, steps on Tiozzo's tape, Tiozzo's arm is stuck at his waist, and then *bam* its lights out.

Come to think of it though, I believe Tiozzo had Branco hurt at the time, and so the ref didnt want to intervene during one of Fabrice's moments.

He's pushing on now and hasn't fought in ages - he'll probably get smashed by Peter Haymer, after me championing him.

He was (apparently) mentioned as a possible opponent for Branco during his first reign as WBA Light Heavy champion - so maybe they can start negotiations.

He's a crafty boxer who is better than he looks. He's a bit like Sam Soliman in that respect - he's not that graceful and looks beatable, but it appears to be easier said than done.

All his defeats have either been when he was outweighed or vs the decent Siluvangi (early career).

I think he can mix it in this current climate at world level.

Looking at his record, I doubt he can be successful anymore, even against third tier lightheavies. Still, he's had some moments, and itd be nice to see him get his payday. That win over Michailenko looks real nice on his record, the Latvian's only one to this day.

Good win for Branco, just for the record i think Mundine hurt his ankle mid-fight with Siaca. Doubt a prime Mundine would have lost to be honest.
