Nonsense, Danny is as strong as a bull, and weighs as much as one.
No Emma, many people have mistaken me for him, however, I merely share the same name.

Are you as much of a fitness guru as Jim is? I mean he's really done so well with the fighters he's had hasn't he.
MOST OVERRATED TRAINER EVER.

Well, I think his reputation is to some degree based on his own phenomenal level of fitness, he's as fit as a butcher's dog, but sadly, Danny Williams is letting his rep down badly.

I used to box (well sort of) at St Pancras when Jim Mcdonnell was a pro based out of the same club.
When he went the distance with Brian Micthell they said he could have done another 15 rounds.
Did make me think even then "Why didn't you give more in the ring then in a world title fight?" but I guess that's the way the fight panned out and Mitchell schooled him a bit....
Mind you Mcdonnells famed stamina didn't work against Azumah Nelson who caught up with him and smashed him to pieces in the final round of ther fight. He put up a really show though against a peak Nelson.
I think Mcdonnell is copping a bit too much stick on here to be honest, he's suffering because of the Danny Williams association. Possibly time to kiss Williams goodbye is he wants to be taken seriously in the future....

Losing to Nelson was no disgrace... Mitchell too was a very good boxer... Mcdonnell was a very good boxer with his main weakness being that he didnt carry a big dig which cost him when he tried for world titles... he's another one who'd be a 'world' title holder if he was boxing today...
I dont think you can really blame Jim for whats happened to Danny, but he;s probably been too loyal to Williams... should have walked out when Williams didnt get into shape...

Brian Mitchell rarely gets the 'props' he deserves - he was an excellent champ and was only really brought to the forefront of the public's imagination when he battles Tony Lopez late in his career.
No amount of fitness is gonna overcome the skills of the likes of Nelson and Mitchell.

Well, I guess loyalty is what it is about, he's stuck with Danny through thick and errr thin, even though Danny has dumped him as trainer and trained himself for some of his fights.

Depends what sort of "world title" you talk of. He wouldnt have beaten the barreras, pac-mans, morales of this world

Mitchell would have been competitive with that trio I reckon, though I doubt he would have beaten them.

Mitchell was one of the finest pure boxers of the 80s and 90s. He had a better skill set than Azumah: if you want to gage his class, compare his performance vs McDonnell to Azumah v McDonnell.
Nelson was great, but he was having fits v Mac. He was going after him amateurishly by following him marching forward like a toy soldier. Mitchell outboxed Mac with his pure skills. Nelson, relying on his awesome physical attributes, spent so much energy v McDonnell & he was never quite the same after that.
Mitchell is totally undervalued and it's a joke to assume he couldn't have beaten Barrera, Pac & Morales. They were smaller men who moved up & for my money only Barrera could match his smooth skills from that trio.
Mitchell was actually super feather champ before Azumah. nelson fought only for WBC titles and - if we're honest - he got some lucky decisions for being with King. Remember Martinez I, Ruelas I, Fenech I anyone? Mitchell went into Tony Lopez' hometown as WBA champ. Lopez was the IBF champ. In a great, close fight, Mitchell took over the fight in the late rds & got a draw in Lopez' hometown. Then he had to vacate his WBA title to get a rematch & promptly schooled Lopez - in Lopez' hometown again.
He was the champ be4 Nelson, yet Ring ranked Nelson as the champ straight away when Azumah moved up. Mitchell made more title defenses, his fights with Lopez should've made him a unified champ. In addition, Mitchell fought everyone on the road - when his foes were at their most confident & dangerous. Never got a single favor in the ring, which make his accompishments even more impressive.
Makes me sick that Brian Mitchell still doesn't get his props.
