HAYE V MORMECK a possibility

With Haye being #1 to face Bell (WBC), it seems the plan of action is to face Bell directly, or fight Mormeck in an eliminator. Bell looks to be a man hard to get in the ring, as he's already turned down a fight with haye in the UK (be4 haye-Abdoul) apparently, doesn't want to rematch dale brown and had a convenient tooth problem when he had to face slick Steve Cunningham.

So it is very possible that haye fights Mormeck, maybe in London. According to Boxing News , Booth will know in about 3 weeks' time

What a fight that would be. Haye-Mormeck

mormeck is a rough and ready fighter.

he gave bell a real tough one before tiring and finally folding in the 10th. bell had to really soak it up at times.

haye will need to show serious improvement from the thompson fight if he's gonna win this one.

I worrie about Haye, he is a tallented fighter but he has never had to dig deep. I don't think much of Bell but don't know how haye will fare against a fighter who pressures him and stays standing.

Hope both GET IT ONNNNN! :TU:

Mormeck would of beat Bell if he didn't neglect his stamina as he was winning.

Isn't Mormeck with DK anyway? So would King mind sending Mormeck over here?

if King gave a damn about the frenchman he wouldn't have reduced him to one fight per year. wonder if that affected mormeck's stamina. guy like him needs to keep sharp. instead, mormeck must have reduced his training to body building and that didn't help anything

Strange fight to take, seeing as he's assured of a title shot already - even in the wacky world of boxing, a no#1 slot means purse bids and a crack at the champ.
Not a lot to gain from Mormeck, whereas the French man has a major insentive to win - plus I reckon he'd have way too much for DH too.
Whereas Bell is vunerable early, which plays to Haye's strengths at least....

i don't think haye is mandatory. i think he's rated #1. if mormeck is rated #2, and there is no mandatory, could be they have a decider. that's how it should be, imo

maybe it depends on bell. not an easy guy to get in the ring since winning the undisputed title.

Anyone know if Bell and Chris Byrd are going to have a match. I read an interview with Byrd and he was hinting that he would be heading south to Cruiserweight in future.

I think Mormeck will munch Haye personally.... probably a tougher fight than Bell.

Haye will pull out....he dont want to fight anyone......if unheard of Jokehanson and Abdoul guarantee a shot at the title theres a hundred cruisers out there could do it.....

doubt it. don't forget he was a win over world rated gurov. he didn't hesitate to take that dangerous fight, neither did he think twice about taking on thompson

As long as Haye has the power to knockdown Mormeck he could win, and he has, also the size difference could be telling but I still see Mormeck sneaking this one. Would that even be an upset?

Mormeck would be the more of a test but I don't know what he has been doing of late and think he is on the slide. WOuld be a good learning fight for Haye, I would like to see Haye fighting often personaly he still needs to learn a lot and if he hangs around waighting for the Bell fight I feel he coud be waiting some time.

I would imagine Mormeck would start as favourite.... especially stateside - have they even seen Haye in action?

Nevermind stateside, Mormeck would start a very big favourite in my eyes.

Can he really hurt a truly world-class opponent, and then follow it up? I'm really not sure. His power is talked about so much, but I honestly still think it's unproven. And Haye without power doesn't leave you much....

with haye now being an alert, cautious counter puncher, he is in a better position to beat these sluggers. it's within haye's abilities to beat mormeck and bell. he has to slow the fight down to his pace, read exactly what they are doing, then snipe them off with hard long range shots. forget the image of haye blasting everyone out he may have to become somewhat boring (as with abdoul).

:o 17 wins with 16 KOs/TKOs not powerful enough for you ?

Who've they come against? Did Thompson go down? Did Johansen?

I'm not saying he's got no power, I'm just disputing the argument that he's the monster hitter he's made out to be. He reminds of Witter, who looked fearsome against the likes of Lucky Sambo, and somewhat less so against a decent technical operator like Kotelnik.

I fail to see How Haye is going to blow away the top-flight cruisers, especially if he can't sustain an attack. Don't get me wrong, I feel Haye is a very talented individual. But I think, right now, there's a little too much talk about what he could do, without the requisite step-up in class to show that he can do it.

Ah ok.

There's plenty on here who have similar concerns but I have been impressed by his change in style (albeit seemingly negative) as there were doubts post Thompson as to whether he could change his all out attacking ways.

I hope he can find a way to balance a mix of these two styles as he progresses through his career; remaining cautious while picking his shots although always ready to explode into action when the opportunity presents itself.

I can understand that. But even allowing for patience, he's going to have to throw more shots than he's shown in his last two fights. I don't see him stopping Bell in his tracks by throwing 3 right hands a round, no matter how well timed they are, I just don't think he's that destructive.

The ability is most certainly there, don't get me wrong. But I have doubts about Haye finding a way to win if someone like Bell or Mormeck takes him into the second half of the fight, and it then goes to the trenches. Hopefully he'll prove me wrong.

If he can find that balance, he'll be some proposition, I agree. I'd like to see him in a 12 rounder against someone who'll fight back next, to see if he can throw enough meaningful shots when on the back foot. Because, let's face it, that Abdoul fight was pointless. Cantatore would be my choice for his next opponent, I think. Surely we'd learn something there?

There are plenty of fighters who were regarded as incredible hitters with long strings of ko's who were found out when they stepped up in class. It's already happened to Haye against Thompson and to a degree against Johannsen. It's another thing to be able to hurt a fired up and top level fighter.

i actually think the abdoul fight is a bit of an abberation. i mean, if they wanted to fine tune haye into a patient counter puncher, abdoul might've been the wrong foe. what i mean is, abdoul doesn't throw punches unless you throw first. he just keeps the arms round his head. when macca fought him, macca got caught by sloppy shots when he came in reckless.

obviously, mormeck probably above all others would demand far better from haye. last few fights i've seen a lot in haye that i like. he's aware of what the opponent is doing, almost to a fault. a bit fussy in there. but with a slow starter like mormeck, who's coming off a devastating KO loss, haye can do well. what i'd like to see from haye is to strike a fine balance between power punching & clever boxing. like Dean Francis was showing, from the Cornelius Carr fight through to Mark Baker.

perhaps the lennox influence is spreading too far. with lewis, he was either brutally stopping ppl or holding back.

what was that proverb about idolatry being foolish or something

Would you agree that Cantatore would be a good fight for Haye next? Easy to make for the European belt as well.

What about Rothmann, he'd be a decent test, he's slippery and throws a lot of shots, maybe a little way past his best by now, but he's no mug.

Scratch that comment, hadn't followed Rothmann for a while, he's retired after a string of losses.
