Edwin Valero gets his acid test this weekend against solid looking WBA champion Vicente Mosquera.

Not only is this Edwins first big test it takes place in the champions home city of Panama.

From the limited times I have seen of Valero, he is very wild but obviously has extreme power. Having only ventured outside of the 1st round once. How will he cope in the later rounds if Mosquera can take him there?

Will he change tactics, I know he has sparred regularly with the top Super Feather's (Morales Etc) so he surely must be more than a face first brawler. I'd imagine he'll give it a go in the first then take stock.

Looking forward to this, the pick of this weekend bouts, hopefully it is being streamed somewhere?!

Yes Forrest v Quartey should be good, I think Ike wins by late TKO or decision.

Wow a title shot after never been past the second round, unbelievable. Can imagine a Nigel Benn situation where he never went past the early rounds and when he did against Watson got outhustled.

Mind you if Valero can go the distance & win the title on points, this kid could be the next big thing.

Very interesting fight this - could be the experienced champ rides out the early storm, then takes the fast running out of ideas Valero to school. Seems the likely result that...

But I reckon Valero shocks the hometown champ with his power early, putting him over. But does he finish him off??

Quartey/Forrest is a good un too. I see Forrest having too much for the fading star from Ghana - who's left it a bit late, and I don't think his chin is as good as it was.

The link is Valero in sparring. He shows powerful combo's, straight punches and fast hands.

As long as he doesn't get to reckless, he win's. He should adopt his normal style in this title fight. The ko will come.

Wow! Sounds like some fight - Valero put the champ over twice in the FIRST, then was dropped heavily himself in the 3rd, before stopping Mosquera in the 10th...in the champ's hometown as well.

Its good for him he got taken rounds, now hes experience and a threat to everyone. He may have the style to take out Pacman too

Sky have GOT to get this fight for next weeks card Quartey card. I can't imagine it would cost much from Panamanian tv or whoever covered it.

I am salivating over seeing this fight...Valero is the man! Extreme power indeed and now he showed he has the stamina to go into the later rounds. A star in the making perhaps?

Valero has shown that he has stamina, good whiskers, and can carry a big punch into the later rounds against top class opposition. If that doesn't mark him out as a potential megastar of boxing then nothing will.

Mosquera is good, but he was possibly the second poorest of the four champions. He's know Pacquaio, Barrios, Barrera etc and I'd think Juarez would be him also.

Mosquera fighting in front of a home crowd, for his beloved belt is an A class ultra determined opponent. I think Valero is just that good. I mean, he nearly blew him out in 1 round. Mosquera had only been down once in his career.

Beg to differ! Barrios was beaten by the overrated and eventually exposed Freitas, with subsequent wins over ordinary Anchondo and Nagy. Valero definitely takes the relatively untested Barrios, 50/50 vs aging Barrera or Juarez and underdog to Pacman!
