Scott Gammer vs Danny Williams is on?

THE British heavyweight showdown between unbeaten champion Scott Gammer and former holder Danny Williams is coming to Wales.
Gammer's manager, Paul Boyce, came up with the highest purse offer at the Board of Control's monthly meeting in Cardiff, his £63,000 bid trouncing that of principal rival allegedly, who clearly believed that £41,000 would be enough to see off his Welsh competition.
"The fight will go ahead at the Afan Lido on October 13," says Boyce, "and it'll be broadcast on Sky."
Boyce had to do without television backing when he promoted Gammer's title-winning battle with Midlander Mark Krence at Carmarthen Showground in June - bang in the middle of saturation coverage of the World Cup.
Pembroke Dock puncher Gammer, the seventh Welshman to wear the crown, will be 11 days short of his 30th birthday when he faces 33-year-old Williams, who lost his Commonwealth belt to former victim Matt Skelton at the Millennium Stadium last month.
There has been talk of a third meeting between Williams and Skelton, but there seems little enthusiasm for it in the business and, if Danny pulled out now to go down that route, he would face a substantial fine.
Boyce already has a stand-by opponent in the wings should it happen, but he and Welsh fight fans will hope that proves an unnecessary precaution.
"If Gammer wins this, his mandatory defence, he'll get two voluntary defences against potentially easier opponents," says Boyce, "and four wins would earn him the Lonsdale Belt to keep.
"This is easily the biggest fight of Scott's career and we've got to make sure he's properly prepared for it," added Boyce.

Can't see Danny motivating himself for this. He seems to think for some crazy reason that he should be mixing in the top echelon of world heavyweights and will (wrongly) see someone like Gammer as being beneath him.

Ian, that is the very same thought I had whilst I was reading the above article.
I will be shocked if Danny turns up for this fight, I hope Team Gammer really have got another fighter on standby.

I don't think Warren thinks it will happen going by the purse bid result. Despite his indifferent (okay, shit) performances of late he is still probably his 3rd biggest draw card for the ITV network.

Lets hope it comes off but like the rest of you I am not convinced Williams will be up for this. Mind you what other options does he have after his disgraceful show last time out?

If he was ever serious about coming back(which I won'tbelieve unless I see it), then Gammer would be the perfect opponent. Otherwise retirement or getrid of Mc Donnell, he sucks eggs bad.

The Sklelton fights ad AH must have paid well.

He is a pro athlete
which is why he has been a disgrace in the last few years.
used to like Danny Williams but he has done nothing but harm boxing recently and I really hope he doesn't take this fight and just retires as hoping he turns up in shape is a waste of time

I would love to see Williams turn up fit and in shape for this one,as he would KO Gammer without doubt if he did.But not even a small part of me thinks he will bother trying to get any kind of serious shape.
Retire.Or risk losing to yet another fighter who you should have otherwise dealt with easily......

Yeah for a trainer McDonnell was always singled out for the fitness of his fighters. Everytime Jim's name was mentioned, his fitness regime came with it.
Doesn't say a lot for him with Danny now does it. The seen in the full monty were the bloke is sitting in his shed rapped in clingflim eating a mars bar springs to mind

He does or did always get Takaloo into excellent shape - does he still train him?

Looks like he still does yeah.
He can help someone like Takaloo go down in weight(clear he's still a natural light middle though), but with Danny he adds over 20 lbs for his next fight!

I know danny has let everbody down,but NO WAY was he fat or 20 stone in skelton williams 2..just take another look at the video.i just think warren told them both...no chance of a world title fight...but skelton williams 3 would bring a few bob in for both.
You think,danny hardly threw a punch,skelton did`nt either,and just said he damaged his hand weeks before...seems very fishy to me...unless it was all planed out.
Danny ko`s gammer inside 2 rounds...plenty of bullshit for ITVto put up money for the 3rd williams -skelton fight...for British and Commomwealth titles,with european,or world title so say at end of fight for winner...Food for thought?

Michael Gomez got about 16k for his British title challenge to Alex Arthur so maybe this is pretty standard for British title bouts ?
I think Williams should take this bout, and if he think's he is above this level then he is being stupid. He has been knocked down to this level, his own fault.
As for McDonnell he could be really putting Danny to work in the gym but if Wiliams goes homes every night and eats Kipling Cakes etc then who is to blame?
