I see that Cyril Thomas who Nicky beat for the title has a fight for the EBU featherweight title, why has Nicky lost his belt ???

I presume he's vacated because they must be trying to secure a WBC shot against the new mexican title holder, but boxrec has In Jin Chi down at having a WBC shot later this year, can anyone clarify the situation

Your presumtion is spot on, not sure on the WBC title situation - there have been a few recent threads on it, but no one seems to know the score.

Rodolfo Lopez is defending against Chi in November I think.

Isn't Humberto Soto still the interim champ though?

You'd think if this Lopez fella beat Chi then Chi would be out of the picture at Featherweight and if Cook got his shot & beat Lopez he could maybe make quite a few defences (featherwight dont seem to be the most talented of divisions at the moment) before a big fight against one of the other champs.

I think Chi is some sort of mandatory though the winner of Lopez v Koshimoto was stipulated to fight Chi next. If thats the case then Cook could be waiting a while for his mandatory to come round. And lets be honest WBC mandatories take longer than most!

They might as well do what they did with Eastman and give Cook a straight mandatory.

Eastman had to wait ages for his mandatory shot as did McCracken before him. And Witter has been WBC mandatory for god knows how long. So even if Cook is made mandatory challenger it doesn't guarantee him a quick crack at the belt.

Quite. And I believe that the EBU have introduced some rule that if you are Euro champ and have a world title shot lined up, you HAVE to give up the belt. Maybe they equate being the mandatory as having a shot lined up (you would think so) but as Nick says, you might have to wait ages for this shot and end up sitting on your arse doing nothing.

Cook gave up his EBU belt though.

He doesn't deserve a title shot anyway. Is there any indication that he's better than the likes of Rudy Lopez, Injin Chi and Takashi Koshimoto? No, I say. Cookie's looked a lot less dominant since winning the EBU title.

Lopez can have a voluntry defence before the CHI fight so anything could happen.

It looks like Cook will have to wait till next year, why doesn't he just fight Scott Harrison. It all baffles me.

Humberto Soto is out of the picture at feather now, his definately moving / moved up to super feather.

Cook deserves a title shot much more than Rudy Lopez deserved his. Lopez had not beaten anyone of note.

He has held that WBC no 1 spot for a while now and keeps winning so he's due his shot IMO.

It was a controversial decision which is why Chi is getting another crack so quickly.
