Pickering to get EBU shot!

Esham Pickering will have revenge in mind when he rematches with undefeated Michael Hunter for the European super bantamweight championship later this year. After knocking Hunter down in both the first and second rounds of their October 2005 clash, Pickering, 29-4 (11 KOs), allowed his opponent back into the fight and lost his EBU belt on a wafer-thin majority decision. Now, with the European Boxing Union ordering a rematch, 'Brown Sugar' will hopefully get his chance at vengeance. Purse bids have been called for September 1. However, there are rumours that Hunter may vacate the title, in which case Pickering will most likely face undefeated Irishman Bernard Dunn for the vacant belt before Christmas. For Pickering, the EBU title chance is a welcome tonic after missing out on a world title opportunity on May 13. He was due to face IBF featherweight champ Valdemir Pereira in Boston on Ricky Hatton's undercard but was forced to pull out hurt. Pickering's replacement Eric Aiken went on to win the title. "I knew Pereira was nothing special and I was bit sick watching another guy beat him," Pickering said. "But, that's life, I'll get my chance and my time will come."

Thats what i was thinking too, wanted to see other peoples opinions first, i think if he does vacate in my mind something bigger for him is on the horizon.

If he vacates it's the IBF title he is after , which is currently vacant and is going to be fought between Gabula Vabaza and Steve Molitor .

Hunter is rated higher in the IBF than Molitor , so make of that what you will .

Surprised to hear he may be vacating as there are some big domestic clashes to be had in dunne and pickering again.

I don't know Vabaza or Molitor that well but I think there is a real chance that the winner of those two would still be weaker than either Pickering or Dunne , and if you can fight for a better title against weaker opposition(possibly) then why wouldn't you .

Yeah but a world title is any boxers dream, imagine if he wins one then defends it to a domestic fighter. Bring it onnnnn

Coz he knows Dunne and Pickering are far too great a threat to risk a world title shot on. If Hunter lost his title at this point he'd piss away his chances of a world title shot so he might as well vacate and hang on for his big chance. He's well rated with all the sanctioning bodies.

God yeah if he gets his shot at a worlds then by all means then he should go for it i just hope that these two guys meet at some stage (dunne vs hunter) cos i think it would be a great fight.

I have only seen Molitar once I think but was impressed with his slick boxing and movement.

Would it be sufficient to neutralise Hunter's aggression and pressure? I think it probably would although Molitar has had a start stop career if I remember rightly. Wasnt his brother found guilty of murder in CAnada? I think that incident might have slowed Molitar's progress.

I was really looking forward to Hunter v Dunne; it just has the feeling of a can't-miss-classic.

I give Hunter a good chance at world level, his never say die attitude i think will come through

A friend of mine swears he saw Hunter in a shop in Dublin at the weekend (and lets face it he would be hard to miss!). Wonder if he was over for talks about a fight with Dunne?

it must have been micky over there cos you couldnt mistake him cos that is on ugly bloke you would have thought with all the money his earning he would sort them teeth out at least can anyone think of any boxers uglier than him?

you are mad. Hatton is nowhere near that bad.

We have gone over this before and someone came up with the excellent shout of Keith Long.

Of current boxers Hunter is right up there, past boxers how about Peter Judson? That bloke could curdle milk just by looking at it.

razor how enough can you say hatton is as ugly as him coming from hartlepool u must have seen micky before did you not see them teeth his got about 3 sets of teeth there in all sorts of angles and not only that they are also every colour under the sun although i admit keith long was ugly mick takes it to another level in his interviews he trys to cover them tombsones up but if you catch him off gaurd you can see them tombstones in there full glory and ive got a sneaky feeling that he wins his fights not by his fitness its cos when his in clinches he sinks his fangs into them and drinks there blood

Yeah i have seen micky before, on lots of occasions infact. Ok the guy has big teeth, big deal lol. A wudnt say hes the ugliest boxer around like no way. That Valero is a ugly fornicator
