Perhaps Kevin, who I believe knows Jono fairly well, can shed some light to this - but according to Seconds out, Thaxton vs Freitas is actually being considered for the Hatton vs Urkal undercard.

It actually sounds veasable from a promotional standpoint. Freitas's name has been long touted as a challenger to Hatton ever since Ricky left SN.

I wouldn't be that happy with Freitas vs Hatton, remember Freitas was a long time Super Featherweight. He's not a massive Lightweight. Okay Ricky is no Welter, but he is a big Light Welter.

Freitas is way too good for Thaxton, I think he'd win pretty quickly.

Thaxton deserves such a fight though, by his last win which as quite impressive. However Freitas should put bigger things on his agenda.

He's scared too after the Corrales loss. I'm sure he would be Diego the second time through, but he won't ever get back in with him.

Yes you'd think so. But Pelullo promotes Freitas and Fight Academy promote Thaxton. And those two are collaberating on the Hatton show in December hence why this match can probably be made on the undercard. Earl is with Sports Network now.

I just checked the rankings and Earl is #2 with the WBO , and #7 with the WBC .

and he's possibly going to throw this away by fighting for the WBU title..........he should have waited for the Melero fight to happen and then he'd be in an even better position as European champ .

Popo has to be a big favourite but as they say Thaxton has a punchers chance.

I think so too. Thaxton says he will have the edge in size, but the class gap is pretty big. Freitas has mixed it with the absolute best and these sort of world champions would chew up british domestic class Thaxton even with him getting a pull in the weight IMO.

He also mentions he went twelve tough rounds with Hatton and that's impressive, but the it was Thaxton who found the 12 rounds tough and took a one sided beating. Hatton could have gone on all night dishing it out.

Jon does carry a punch, but surely not enough to actually win. He always fails when he goes in with the guys near the top end of the international ratings. Hatton, Magee, Burton etc. His last win is noteworthy though, but I can't make much of a case for him. I'm pleased he's getting a payday though, he certainly deserves that.

plenty of fighters get undeserved shots at the title to give the champions an easy fight... Just wait for Calzaghes next opponent for a perfect example

Aye it happens but surely Hobson knows some would get slaughtered.

Maybe he wants to be the poormans big time promotor.
