Uncovered this yesterday. Valuev's first of two quick fights in the UK, in late '96. This is his 5th pro fight against Neil Kirkwood. He fought Darren Fearn a month later. Both fights were in London.

That's it really. He has some comedy fuzzy hair, and looks quite wiry dare I say it, although apparently he was announced as 21 stone, but only because that's as far as the scales at weigh-in would go.

Valuev has improved technically since then, but it's still his size is still his main help and hindrence. I think his power isn't actually that great relative to his size, which is probably caused by his lack of speed. But his arm span, which is approximately similar to that of a 747, just envelops the opponent, making it pretty tricky to get away.

Anyway, there you go. Anyone go to these fights? The second bill in England that Valuev was on also featured John Ruiz

and Adamek, I think he had Tomasz Adamek, who is now the WBC light heavyweight champ

He also had Montell Griffin who went on to beat Roy Jones and still knocking on the door of a world title fight.

Valuev probably wouldn't of got this far without Sauerland.

I agree, he has been very nurtured, probably only could of gotted away with being 37-0 withou facing anyone, only in Germany.

I wouldn't necessarily agree there Razor, i have always been a defender of Valuev's record, it really isn't as bad as people make out. As padded records go there are worse offenders around, both in and outside of Germany.
