it's fair comment. We don't know how good he really is.
However, the reason that people want floyd to fight him, is that he is a known puncher at 147, something Floyd has yet to face.

I hope Floyd fights him, he'll break him down by the book. The guy leaves his jab out there too long after throwing it, repeatedly throws the same combinations, and when something lands, you'd think all hell had broken loose by the way he throws punches. If someone like me can see these things that quick, imagine what a guy that prepares like Mayweather would see. The only issue I fear for FLoyd is the initial rush that's bound to happen.

That initial rush is reason enough to make the fight. Margarito is a big strong lad, and whilst he may be outclassed and take some punishment he's bound to pose a threat. I've seen him decapitate a few fighters with a well chosen shot, and he's a great finisher, whilst I have my doubts about how much success he would have in hitting floyd, as I say, we have yet to see Floyd in with a genuine banger at either 147 or 140. Corley is probably as close as he got, and he is a solid rather than massive puncher.

I beg to differ with Mr Maloney’s statement.
Antonio Margarito was not out boxed when he lost to Daniel Santos.
A quick search on the internet brought up reports that agreed
with the fight I saw on TV that night.

Frank also forgot to mention Antonio’s stoppage over Sergio Gabriel Martinez
who went on & did a pretty good number on a couple of top British 11 stoners.
So just exactly who has a better comp in the welterweights?

Plenty of fighters have offered Margarito fights including Mosley and Winky. Also Mitchell/Williams/Judah have recently said they'd fight him. Margs comp is ok but he needs to improve it to make himself a credible name.

Not sure this has much to do with Mr Maloney, it's just a news item/opinion on his website, which has news/stories on boxing from around the world.

It's not maloney's statement, it's the guy who is writing for the site.
Those aren't exactly two of the most reputable sites are they? I'm not disagreeing, just saying quoting two fairly amateurish sites isn't really much of a backup.
Margarito's problem seems to be that Arum is shit scared of him losing. Arum is banking on getting a fight with Mayweather it seems, a fight that seems unlikely to happen to me. Arum should get Margarito a fight against the likes of Mosley, because he could probably beat Mosley at this stage at 147 certainly. Instead, he's turning Margarito into a bit of a joke with all his bluster whilst not doing anything to showcase his fighter.

Santos was beating Margarito at the time of the stoppage - no doubt.
Yes, the Martinez win was very good - Margarito was pretty dominant.

Agree with Stu, I thought Margarito's punches were slow and wide against Santos. Can't see how he would have won that fight.

And Santos is far from a great fighter, good but not great, and he was able to last and withstand Margarito and his infinite power.
Margarito is a very good fighter, but not enough on his books to call him great. He is worthy of a fight with Mayweather in my eyes, but it does nothing for Floyd outside of hardcore fans. Margarito is good, as I've said, but the Arum hype machine has been on full blast this summer, and it's getting a bit insane.

I don't think Arum is doing a good job, I don't see how Margarito is anywhere closer to getting a fight with Mayweather, and what is he doing in the meantime?

How many articles have been written about Tony this summer in comparison to any other year...he's blown up outside the ring.

Yes that may be so, but the backlash is already beginning, because his achievements do not match his lofty hype.
It's all well and good to hype a fighter and call out his opponents, but as we saw with Jr Witter, unless you've got the resume to match, and bring something to the table the fight ain't happening.
Margarito, so far as I am aware isn't that well known outside of hardcore fans, and whilst Mayweather isn't exactly SRL when it comes to DLH figures, he's at least got a profile as being one of the best if not the best fighter alive today.
Margarito's management would be better served getting him fights against other name fighters like Mosley, but then perhaps Arum doesn't believe his own hype?

Well, Tony has passed up numerous fights that would get him on his way, especially one with Paul Williams. I read somewhere that Williams handed it to Tony in sparring, but take that at face value. Paul Spadafora schooled Mayweather many moons ago, and people pretty much laugh that off.
Tony should've taken the Williams fight, guaranteed to get on Showtime, and get him off of his biggest fights being on ESPN, or a 34,000 buy PPV. Those type of numbers are doing nothing for him.
However, I don't think Arum understands that not everyone can manage on PPV. His last two PPV's (Cotto/Malignaggi and Rahman/Maskaev) both did under 100K buys, granted Cotto's fight was the same night as Tarver/Hopkins.

The key point here is about Mayweather avoiding bangers as he goes up the weights. Floyd is a tremendous athlete and he would beat most if not all of the people he chooses not to fight, but the fact he chooses Baldomir over Tony or Hatton (cue Hatton haters saying Hatton is avoiding him; pure tosh, for the right money, he would fight) raises at least a question mark and probably a blemish.
It would be a shame if Mayweather tiptoes through the weights to a ODLH fight at 154 (or more likely a catchweight of 150), as I think he loses that early (actually very early, the Loynes family fortune will be having some big four figure bets on ODLH in three as I think Oscar's lovely hook brings in an over excited FLoyd) and tarnishes his career.
He beats Baldomir on points easily unless the latter successfully rushes him.

Hmm. Oscar struggled with Mosley's speed of hand at his very peak. Floyd is every bit as quick, technically far better, and has a defence which is on a whole different play to Mosley.
Oscar has been flatted by facing a limited and immobile banger like Mayorga, precisely why Mayorga was picked.
If Oscar does land on Floyd, Floyd will be riding those shots out, not standing catching shots like a statue, my money will definetly be on Floyd.
However, it's a fight I am really looking forward to, it's a fantastic end to Oscar's career, and a really truly epic fight of our generation, somewhat like DLH v Chavez was at the time, but with Oscar nowhere near as far gone as Chavez was at the time.
I am prepared to forgive floyd for taking this fight, as if he does beat Oscar he will have to be at the top of his game, as I do not see him hurting Oscar, who despite his pretty boy image has an anvil like chin.

At 147 I'm not sure Hatton is as big a puncher as Baldomir. Indeed at 140 he was a more of a Baldomir esque puncher - strong as opposed to one punch KO (okay, the Maussa punch was exceptional).

Judah may actually be a bigger banger than Margarito, Gatti was banger.
PBF doesn't do overexcited, he does tactical no mistake making boxing, hardly ever getting caught flush and landing perfect shots of his own. Having said that PBF hasn't been near a puncher of ODLHs level, or a competitor of Oscars level. tough 1 to call.
What will be critical in this fight is if Oscar can make use of his reach advatage with the left jab, if he can pressure PBF with big bodyshots. Floyd could counteract all of these and pick Oscar apart. Its a very interesting super fight. Could oscar win early - yes if he lands enough shots but that on PBF is unlikely
