Just trying to think of examples of when an underdog with a glass jaw fought a huge puncher who was expected to win, but the big puncher lost.

Any examples?

OK....however it's a bit unfair on poor old Earnie, he was 50 years old when they fought.

I was thinking more of a puncher in his prime, someone expected to blow the glass-jawed opponent away but actually got beat thereselves.

The one that springs to mind off the top of my head would be Claude Noel vs Radolfo Gonzales. Gonzales was knocking out
just about everyone he fought at that point and was considered to be a serious up and coming prospect. He took on glass jawed shopworn never great to begin with Claude Noel who just after his fight with Gonzales was stopped with one punch by powder puff puncher Autoro Frias. Gonzales just couldn't mount an attack a went on to lose in a dismal performance.


Another one would be Harry Arroyo over Robbin Blake.

Recently you had Oleg Maskaev over Hasim Rahman, plus his other victory against Rahman.

Also would add Johnny Bumphus over Marlon Starling and Andy Price over Pipino Cuevous.

Marvis Frazier's victory over James "Boncrusher" Smith.

Buster Douglass certainly had a less than stella chin, having been stopped three times before going in against Tyson.

I guess more when Patterson knocked Johansson out being both were glass jaws but i allways seen Johansson as the harder puncher.

Ruddock had an asthma attack. Sam Peter vs. Wladimir Klitschko is a recent example.

I know about the asthma attack but big punching Rudduck was still 'stopped' by Jaco who had been KO'd a number of times.

I remember reading about Gonzales being in a car wreck but I always thought it was after the Noel fight. I have the article somewhere in an old magazine but it would be like looking for a needle in a haystack, so I did a quick Boxrec search and his longest lapse without a fight came right after the Noel fight which is when I thought the accident took place.
