Fights against the likes of Woods/Johnson should be the norm for a world champion like Calzaghe, but the norm are fights against total no marks like this Bika fella while the megafights are what should constitute his regular title fights. 9 years as world champion and nothing has changed.

Take a look at his record. He is a middleweight who's biggest success has been a points defeat to middleweight contender Sam Soliman. Just because Beyer dragged up him from nowhere to fight for his WBC belt that does not make him a legitimate super middleweight contender Frank! I can understand fighters getting a gimme fight when they've faced the kind of opposition of Taylor or Corrales or even if plans have been made for superfight a few months down the line. But Calzaghes oppostion has been poor (with hindsight in the case of Lacy) and I doubt any fight with Johnson or Woods will take place before next summer and definitely not in February as that BBC article says!

There's still time, Frank, tell Bika to take a walk and bring Winky over! You could put a spin on the fight of how he's after revenge for his mate Lacy and you still have Calzaghe beating up on a naturally smaller light hitting guy. Which is what you want isn't it?

Soliman is a natural JMW as well. The draw with Beyer wasn't grounds for a fight with Calzaghe. Joe just destroyed all the good press the fight with Lacy had gotten him.

Big disapointment this is... why is it so hard for Warrens fighters to actually fight someone who can fight back???..... its a disgrace really... no wonder most of the public cant be arsed with boxing nowadays.... if I was relying on the boxing scene of today and didnt collect classic fights from times when the top fighters actually fought eachother I wouldnt be arsed either.... :x :x :x ...this fight is a disgrace! shame on you fwank!....

Because as long as people will fill up Millenium and M.E.N. for every Calzaghe fight no matter whom he puts in with him, he'll keep doing it. No risk fights that make money, can't beat it.

Unfortunatly Silkov, its because most of the public can't be arsed with boxing that matches like this are put together, SN know that alot of fans are just casuel without much knowledge of boxing , so they can sell fights like this.
if boxing was big news in the tabloid papers again then the general public can see that this is a pretty bad match-up, what we need is headlines in the Sun, Mirror etc slagging this match off, might affect ticket sales. Which would make SN try harder next time.

Casual paying public sees their guy at 41-0 vs a 20-1 guy...good match up on paper in that regards.

I guess that's what the long reigning champs have to do, take easy fights. The sad thing is, Calzaghe can't seem to get up for fights like this. Fighting a guy who drew beyer on a technicality (was it a head clash?) could be a bad sort of omen.

The pathetic thing is, they will say that Calzaghe is fighting a man who drew beyer. Meaning it's the same as taking on beyer. That's where the hype will probably kick in.

I'll watch the fight, as I am more interested in Calzaghe nowadays. But I'm not overjoyed at this match. If his next fight is the Woods-Johnson winner, that will be cool with me.

I don't like to undermine greats of the past, as can be the norm with today's revisionists. But Calzaghe's post Lacy schedule it reminds me of Larry Holmes - beating the one dimensional, left hook obsessed, power punching, undefeated Cooney, and then taking on guys like Scott Frank and Marvis Frazier.

Still, at least the undercard looks decent: Nelson-Maccarinelli and Burns-Murray are both on. Of course, ITV probably won't show them, but nevermind.
