Williams has announced that he is to pull out of the October challenge to Scott Gammer for the British HW title because he isn't physically ready! :o

Somebody needs to get hold of that big lazy heifer & give him a good slapping! :o

He's probably too embarrassed to come into the ring weighing 43 stones, so he decided to pull out now! :x

Williams is so frustrating with his laziness!!

I think he might as well retire. :box:

Ramadam again. Year after year Williams agrees to fights knowing it'll be ramadan, then pulls out.

Remember the proposed Corrie Sanders in 2002? Praise Allah that didnt come off! DW woulda been massacred!

He'd probably be in better shape during that time. :o

God what a bloody joke, hasn't Danny got an Islamic Calendar at home, they only cost about five quid, they've got them in the local turkish grocers near me, I could post him one if he wants.

I've always had the feeling that Williams is not as devout a muslim as he makes out and only uses it as an excuse when needed.

As well as Sanders didn't he pull out of a fight with Tim Witherspoon because of Ramadan?

To be fair to Danny though, valentines day is every year and I still manage to forget about it.

Its a crying shame though because behind it all Danny is one of the most naturally talented heavyweights out there today... if he had his head on right he could well have picked up a major title... he had speed, good power, a good chin and despite it all a lot of heart actually in the ring... but I think really the Klitchenko fight has ruined him for good, he just doesnt want to be in there anymore and should retire before he gets hurt....

Danny's defence has always been very suspect though, little head movement, and not tremendously good mover around the ring. Fast hands and when he was lighter, impressive power too. Not the greatest chin in the world, but bags of heart in abundance. Could have got further than he has with a different attitude, but never a world class fighter.

I think we never got to see more than 50 or 60% of what he could have been, I think he certainly had all the basics to be a world class fighter in todays current scene... but I think the hunger and confidence have always been questionable and now are pretty much extinct...

The thing with Danny is you have to take something from his performance in a number of fights. He never had enough mentally to put it all together in one performance.

For all his physical skills he was never going to be world class with his mindset. And I agree with James about his movement, he struggled with Long in what is considered one of his better performances. Some of his best movement was actually in Sprott 3 where he lost the fight by messing around.

I think he had the hunger (no joke on his eating here i'm afraid), you don't get up as many times as he did against Klit, take the 1st round Tyson beating and pull out a KO in his Potter fight without having hunger. He was also willing to fight on in the Sam fight where he was getting pummeled.

Confidence is something I don't think he ever had. The amount of times i've sat there thinking just let your hands go like he did in the Robinson fight and round 4 against Mirovic instead of just plodding in throwing a shot at a time

I think he never had the hunger in the way of really enjoying fighting... he certainly had courage and pride actually in the ring... but I think in his recent performances this has dimmed a lot. Perhaps one of the worst things to happen to Danny is beating Tyson despite being at least 12 pounds too heavy... he's since used this I think as an excuse to get so big... even though it seemed obvious to me that his weight was a handicap when he fought Klitchenko...

Danny is a tremendously proud and courageous man, he has the will to continue when most others would have quit. I don't think many fighters would fight on with a dislocated shoulder, I've not heard of that happening before (anyone?).

However, there's a differnece between courage and hunger. Hunger is what makes someone get up at 5.00 go running, and make the sacrifices neccesary to give themselves the best chance of winning a fight. For all his undeniable courage, Danny doesn't seem to want to fight that badly.

When I wrote up the preview for the Williams v Tyson fight, I noted his comments at some press junkets, where he mentioned that he was forced into becoming a fighter by his father who pretty much bullied him into doing it. This seemed to explain the strange reluctance in Danny sometimes in the ring, as if he wasn't sure why he was there at times. Against Tyson, he let his hands go, but that's because if he didn't he was going to get his head beaten inside out. When faced with an opponent who isn't directly threatening him physically, Danny often looks flummoxed.

Going back to the Klitchenko fight Dannys corner was an absolute disgrace that night... they all seemed to totally lose it and aside from offering Danny seemingly no logical advise, also allowed him to take one of the worst beatings I've seen in recent years... its hardly surpirising that he's not the same fighter anymore after that...

I think Tyrell biggs beat Jeff Sims with a broken collar-bone... which is very nasty... but a dislocated shoulder is probably just as painful if not more so because of all the nerves and tendons... while a broken collarbone may well have gone numb after a while... though I'd not want to fight with one...

I actually think that Dannys performance in the last Skelton fight maybe due in part to him really deep down not wanting to get another world title shot... at least subconsciously... he doesnt want to be in the situation that he was in the Klitchenko fight again....

We can analyse him inside out but lets just face it Williams is not that good.

So is a replacement lined up, or is the fight off?

No, he is very devout, I have been with him when he has broken off what he was doing so he didn't miss a prayer. Whatever you might say about his boxing, Danny is a good Muslim and in my opinion a thoroughly decent man.

Fair enough, lets home Ramadam gets him below 20 stone.

Or will he be teararseing down to KFC for a family bucket as soon as it gets dark every night?

Cheers for that John, you don't pipe up often, but when you do normally a little nugget like tht.

I've never heard anyone say a bad word about Danny outside of the ring, but inside it sadly more and more often he's drawing criticism. Danny is shortchanging the public lately, and that's a shame. After beating Tyson and even after the hammering from Klitchsko there was a lot of public affection towards Danny, even the American press seemed to take to him before the Klitchsko fight. Danny gets a lot more TV exposure than most fighters could dream of, especially when you consider how patchy his performances are, and yet he just doesn't seem to be getting right mentally and physically any more. I don't know the man personally, but it's hard to see what other than money could be motivating him to continue boxing, because his approach doesn't seem conducive to someone who really sees much future in their career.

No knock on Skelton, who is an overachiever given his late start in boxing, but Danny should never have struggled against someone of Matt's limited skillset and had he turned up in proper shape rather than like an entrant for world strongest man, I doubt he would have.
