RIP: Richard Balthazar
RIP: Richard Balthazar
US Amateur standout Richard Balthazar (Ranked 4th in the US at 125) recently passed away in a car accident.
I had the pleasure of knowing Richy since he started boxing. Great kid, always had a grin on his face, excellent student and someone I'm glad who crossed my path in life.
Richy had told his parents he was going to the mall. Instead he and a friend went drag racing. The driver lost control of the vehicle and slammed into a palm tree on the passenger side. Richy did not suffer and for that I am grateful.
I attended the funeral Mass and the burial. A truly solemn and sad occasion as we buried a young man who had so many more years ahead of him. The boxing community, as well as friends and family, were there to say goodbye. After the burial several of us went to the family's home, ate good food, and celebrated Richy's life.
If anyone is interested in donating to Richy's memorial fund, please let me know and I'll pass on the info.
RIP, Richy. I loved you.
