Putting aside the obvious financial lure, I wonder if Urango might be tempted to "do a Hatton" and vacate his own title in the longer term interests of his own career and unbeaten record ?! He's not in Ricky's league and it should be a painful night for him in December.

The prospect of an encounter with Castillo in the spring is exciting, but we all know how easy plans can go down the toilet in this sport.

This looks a bit like Hatton is just treading water and going nowhere fast but on the plus side he'll most likely remain unbeaten into 2007, while continuing to earn well, with big fights ahead.

Personally I'd rather see him in those big fights right now but if it were that easy I suppose his team would have already signed the contracts. Its just a shame for UK fans that we're going to have to cough up fifteen quid PPV to see Hatton vs Urango.

Farcical really... what has he gained from the last two fights he's had?... looked bad both times and has given up the titles he won in both of them!!?.... the Hatton ship seems to be going round in circles!  !........

Worryingly, if Hatton beats Urango - he might have to do what he hasn't done yet (and face a mandatory soon after). Unfortunately, if Hatton does accept his mandatory this time - it will not be a great spectacle cause it will be either Ben Rabah or Lovemore N'dou (they fight in an eliminator).

The titles were not worthless when Ricky signed to challenge for them.

 What it proves is how worthless his word is. :TU:

When he signed the contracts to fight for these titles (3 in a row),
didn’t he agree to defend it against the mandatory contender?

 The Hatton ship is taking his fans for a ride!

Yeah, I'm sure we're all gutted the Hatton/Urkal-Hatton/M'baye-Hatton/Rabah superfights didn't come off... wtf is he doing casting aside such potential blockbuster money spinners...

He knew THAT  when he signed the contracts to fight for these titles.
The POINT is; :-? He-didn’t-keep-his-word.

Enjoy the ride!

Like Stu said it looks like the Rabah fight is going to come round again afterwards so in effect he has wasted a whole year. With hindsight they should have got Rabah out of the way and pushed for a Cotto fight (what I believe Warren would have done). I've got a feeling if Cotto moves up and wins Hatton's welterweight belt then Castillo may bypass the lightwelter division altogether and fight Cotto. Leaving Hatton begging Corrales for a fight but ending up with Freitas.

Urango is probably a good opponent for Hatton to look good against though, we may see him revert to the boxing skills he used against Tackie if he remembers them.

To be honest I just dont give a feck anymore about Hatton... the guys a joke really, and he bores me... the way he is taking the fans for a ride is a disgrace..... and to think a couple of months back people were saying in a thread that he would have beaten Lloyd Honeyghan hahahahahaha!!!... 8)

its all very well saying that he has fought for three (soon to be four) geuine titles in as many fights, but hes hasnt defended one of them (maussa fight was a kind of defence I guess).

2006 was going to be the big year, now 2007 promises castillo, floyds name isnt even mentioned anymore. I would say "give him hatton a break" but for years leading up and now a year and a half since the tszyu fight Im not giving him any more breaks. The Urango fight is pretty pointless and where he goes from here remians to be seen.

Fact is most of Hattons career has been a break, how many really 'live' opponents has he faced?.... even Tszyu was 35 and faded, despite what the Hattonites would tell you. Maussa was a journeyman with a half decent punch and Collarzo a moderately good boxer... truth is Mayweather would cut Ricky to peices and that fight will never happen unless it is for silly money as Hatton knows that that would be his last fight most likely... I dont think Hatton even particularly enjoys his fights himself anymore....

How was Hattons last fight for a genuine world title?... the title was no more than a paper crown.... to be blunt Hatton has yet to prove that he is the best 140 pounder in Britain, let alone the world...

HI ALL, Ido love the way that folk call Zoo faded and criticise hatton for not sticking to his words etc etc, the very same people who said prior to the fight that 1. Hatotn hadnt got the balls to fight Zoo 2. If he did he would get sparked in 2.

Me thinks people in glass houses should not throw stones. :TU:

Surely part of being a champion involves defending your title. After all, Hatton had no problem defending his WBUseless belt against the crap fighters on offer in their rankings.

Now he's completely title-less. Why not just get mandatories out of the way to pave the way for big fights. What if this fight with Urango falls through, where does that leave him? He's currently got no belt as bargaining power, and he's no closer to a big fight than he was before.

I cannot really see the logic of how Hatton's career is going at the moment. I guess the Collazo incident told him that Welterweight was not where he belonged, but as I recall he gave up a belt to move up and fight there in the first place.

agreed however i think that potential matches and context at the time has something to do with it, hatoptn moved up to try and set up a match with Gatti / PBF . Niether of which materialised for different reasons.

The bigger matches for him now reast at light welter and the colazzo scare compounded this, Corrales Castillo are two matches Id pay to see thats for sure and uif he has to beat Urgango to secure bargaining power so be it.

I am frustrated by his inactivity though, reckon hatton has two years max in him and id like to see 6 fights not 3.

Hatton is wasting his prime years no doubt about it, he should be fighting more than twice a year. 3 maybe 4 times as he used to. Its no coincidence he has looked more sloppy since taking bigger breaks between fights.

Being more active will obviously help that. Hatton needs something like a 15 week camp now they were saying in interviews, well if he wasn't getting so out of shape and fighting more regularly he wouldn't need to prepare so far in advance.

I fear Hatton is in it for the money these days and will retire before any of the really big fights happen. It's certainly a possibility, his hunger for the sport is clearly not what it once was. I'll refrain from making a joke about his hunger for food, although I just have haven't I? It does seem that beating Tszyu could have been some sort of pinnacle for him. :D

Anyway you get my point.

With Ricky not being the most defensive boxer out there and the awfull habbit of bleeding that he has and given the depth of competition around I'd say your two year estimate is about right, let's hope he gets some big names next year, but just who is going to buy this PPV?
I'm not sure how much bargaining power a win over Urangowill get him. Surely a match with Hatton as he is now is a chance for everyone involved to make a shedload and beating Urango won't exactly enhance his repuatation as a fighter either.
Hatton's bargaining power I feel has declined a little. Following his win over Tszyu he was a really hot commodity, the fight impressed the normally derisive yanks and convinced them Hatton could actually fight, and the manner of the victory could scarcely have been more decisive.

Now, a year and a bit later, (it is isn't it?) he's managed to convert that into challenging for the belt he had already won against an opponent that hardly whets the appetite. From unifying the title against Maussa, challenging at Welterweight to this, seems a bad bit of manouvering.

Part of the problem is the spectre of DLH hanging over the 147 division. Floyd is just dying to get his hands on that HUMUNGOUS payday and whilst that remains the case, Hatton's biggest potential payday is on hold. Cotto looks out of the frame also.

It's difficult negotiating such murky waters for sure, but a lot easier when you have a map.

Hatton certainly waited a good while before he fought Zoo didnt he?!!... to say Zoo was in his prime by the time they finally got it on is rather a tad delusional... and all that aside one fight against a decent world class fighter does not a legend make... ok if Ricky wants the most money for the easiest work then thats up to him but lets stop dressing him up as some giant killing legend, ...the truth is that Hatton has been protected all through his career while all the time promising he wants to be a 'legend' and wants those 'big fights'.... once it was Witter, then it was Gatti, Mayweather, now Castillo!.... scuse me if I dont hold my breath on that one cause if I did I would have died years ago by now... :TU:

Jc thanks mate, been busy with work im afriad.

Silkov please read my posts correctly mate, where do I say Zoo was in his prime, I merely state that some folk on here said Hatton didnt have a chance or wouldnt fight him. No one said he was faded when he did a better job on on Shamrba mitchell the 2nd time round did they?

Now Zoo all of sudden was finished b4 he fought Ricky, hindsight is a wonderful thing but only smug fuckers with a poor point to prove use it in debates.
:TU:

anyway lets agree to disagree but I know what was said.

Tszyu was good enough to steamroll Mitchell in his previous fight, looking as good as he ever has I must add.

South African sources say Isaac Hlatshwayo and Viv Harris will fight for the #1 spot for the IBF at 140, which would make the winner Hatton's mandatory after he beats Urango.

Read my posts better mate, I never said Zoo was 'finished' but he was past his best and I stated this before the fight, though I thought he'd still have enough left to beat Ricky (again, read my posts). Credit to Ricky it was a good win, so the disapointment is all the stronger that things have turned out the way they have since then...
