Barret looked like a rabbit in the headlights. They are trying to talk him up as a credible opponent. he was a tomato Khan plain and simple. I think he was put over by a gust of wind for the last one.
We still don't know shit about how good he is.

decent shot put him down but it wasnt so good that the guy should fall down with a clip round the earhole.
i will not comment on amir, who i like, until he faces a guy who can defend and also pick off amir with fast jabs (left hand)

Impressive hitting power - the other guy looked durable enough coming in, and looked to be trying to chin Khan a good one before the roof fell in.
Ranked above Khan in UK, so can't argue with that.

Barretts line of form is atrocious. Utter pap.

Khan dives in, doesnt look for openings, doesnt respect his opponents.

I'm SO disappointed with his "progress".

Wins mean diddly squat unless you are LEARNING.

It's a tough game.

oh come on boys you bunch of cynics fair enough the opponent wasnt brilliant but he could thrpow a punch and did present realistic problems for Amir. He had a significant height and reach advantage, and also he looked like some genetic freak from a computer game which is enough to keep many people away.

Khan coped very wel with a realistic problem and dealt with him in the first round!!! Im not saying that proves Khan is world class or anything near, but he really looked good out there tonight!!! His reflexes were absolutely amazing even on the inside he could lean back far enough to avoid shots!!! that is rare!! His punching technique was phenomenal and his right hand was abolutely incredible!!!

 Sorry matty but his technique was 'phenomenal'? I didn't see much technique. And as for the 'incredible' right hand........well he did land a couple of right hands, sure. But if you think they were 'incredible' then I suggest you never download a Julian Jackson fight. They would blind you with their awsomeness!!!

Look the kid is 19!!! HE IS JUSTA BOY!! what do you expect from a kid of this age?!!? Was he throwing wide looping punches?? Was he scared? wild? confused by the task ahead? (sorry if this sounds like an advert for a loan company) he did the taske well and his punches were nice and quick and tight. He swivelled his hips to give himself the extra momentum and reach, threw STRAIGHT punches, and his balance has greatly improved.

I agree he is young. But if ITV are going to feed us the PR line bullshit about how good he is and how tough the opponent is then expect a backlash when it turns out the guy he beats barely has a pulse. I'm just calling it how it is. He is learning nothing by mauling pushovers like that. FACT!!! :TU:

I thought he looked okay but the guys record was well padded and he didn't have much to offer. I would like to see Kahn against people who hit hard if nothing else becaues I think these light puchers are leading to him being cairless on defence when he opens up.

Great performance by Khan. The guy had a RELATIVELY decent record and was a satisfactory opponent for Khan at this point in his early career. Khan did what he had to.

THEN WHY DOES EVERY SINGLE FIGHTER DO IT?!?!?! Ali faced fighters in his opening days at pro with less experince than Amir's so far. ALI!!! The same goes for countless other world champions You have to build up slowly rather than jump in before you are ready and get in too deep. Its like a fish trying climb trees, it just hasnt evolved enough, okay terrible example but why should he at 19 and in the early stages of a pro career be a world beater? i think you underestimate the toughness of the sport (no offense)

Okay you use Ali. I'll use Kostya Tyszu. Ali fought in a completely different era. He also was not hyped up the way ITV have hyped Khan. You call a spade a spade. I expect him to fight average opponents. He learned something in his last couple, in particular the one in Belfast. He learned nothing in this one. The dangerous thing is that Amir's people seem to be believing the hype.
Barret looked shit scared and got blown away from really very little. Nothing landed for the final knockdown. If the ITV team called it what it was, a marking time fight, then fair enough. But they keep banging on like he's achieved something by doing this. Barret had a winning record : He'd never been beaten like that before :He was ranked above Khan etc etc. I know what I saw and Barret was a step down from the last guy and looked pretty useless.
I think you are nieve to marketing strategies. The average Joe might buy that as an example of how promising Kahn is but it proves ZIP to me. It was intersesting to hear the input from guys on the general board's estimation of Khan as they are untainted by the Warren/ITV PR machine.
They pointed out how little respect he has for his opponents. He doesn't set himself at all. He just wades right in there. Thats because he knows he can.
Believe me I know how hard this sport is. I've been in enough sweaty, shit hole gyms and sparred enough veterans with stories that would turn your shit white.
This forum is for fans in the know. We know shit from shinola. And I'm not going to sit here and pretend that Amir Khan beating up on shit scared, overmatched novices is impressive by any stretch of the imagination. :TU:

:TU: Khan shows no repsect for his opponents. He may have to learn the hard way that not everybody folds at the first sign of fire.

Can someone explain to me what all this stuff was about Barrett being ranked higher "in the british rankings" than Kahn? I wasn't awhere the was a BBBC had an official rankings so was wondering where these mythical rankings ITV were using came from.

Khan is in a tricky position now: too young to fight for the British title, but probably too good for most of the contenders for that title (no matter what you think of him)

So, in an ideal world, pick an opponent for him: I'd like see him against Dean Phillips or Alan Bosworth next. Neither of them world beaters, but both guys who come to fight, and won't just fold. Also guys who aren't naturally about 10lb's smaller. If Khan can blow either of them away, then maybe he is a bit special.

Still have some complaints about his style though: I'd like to see him at someone like Freddie Roach's (wild card?)gym, having a few proper gym wars, just to let him know how tough the sport can be. Not a knock on Oliver Harrison, because maybe he actually is that good that he can just leap in. I doubt it, but it could be true. That handspeed sure is impressive though.

Same hear I think some american gym expereance would do him some good and take him out of his comfort zone. I think Harrison should have done more to deal with some of his more ameterish habbits however kahn is looking stronger.

To be fair, Barrett has competed at Light Welter on several occasions and didn't look small next to Khan.

Dean vs Khan would be good, but Dean should have one or two fights before Khan - I mean the Tontcho Tontchev result will bring in some criticisms. Not from me, but I'm sure some will mention it.
