Anyone now what these former top domestic fighters are up to these days?

Adrian Dodson.

Promising and talented fighter who seemed to be going well untill running into Winky Wright. He reminds me a little of Richard Williams in that he seemed to have all the moves but just 'lacked something'.

Robert Dickie

I remember watching him fight a few times on ITV many years ago. I also seem to recall he broke his back in an accident but came back to win a British Title. Didn't he fall out with his manager because he was always playing rugby?

Gordon Ferris

The forgotten British Heavyweight Champion. I never saw him fight and know little about him so any input very welcome.

Adrian Dodson has done a few "Herbie Hide's" on occasions - appear in the schedules only to pull out (or for the show to be cancelled). So not sure if he has retired.

Unlike Richard Williams, Dodson did have stamina problems and was fragile psychologically (and a bit physically).

Any one know what happend to Floyd Havard - he was scheduled to return, but was always about a stone overweight at the weigh in and his fights (think it happend on more than one occasion) was cancelled.

Is Eric Teymour officially retired?

I read recently that Teymour was sparring with Kessler in preperation for Beyer. So I don't think he's retired.

Erik isnt retired, he had some problems with the BBBC over his licence.
This is all resolved now...
trouble is that now he is too good for most people so getting him fights is very hard...
Opponents want crazy money and without a heavyweight promoter to back him he is suffering...

Like Nick says, he is in Denmark sparring Kessler as we speak (along with former Eastman opponent Tatevosyan) he also helped Mario Veit to prepare for his upset victory over Brahmer.

When is he eligable to fight for the British title? I would look at advicing him to go for that route. I cannot see Froch holding on to the title much longer and for me Eric would be right up there in the British ratings. He doesn't need a heavyweight promoter to get him a mandatory shot at the British title.

Aren't any of the bigger promoters interested in him? He is more that useful!

That's a nostalgia trip for me. The first boxing ticket I got was him versus Kamel Bou Ali in Kings Hall, Stoke. He got stopped (on a cut I think??) and some guy in front of me went ape and threw a chair into the judges. I got back home in time to watch it delayed on Fight Night - What a programme!

Dickie did break his back - he crashed his white Escort XR3 as I remember from the tv reports back then. Don't know what happened to him since though. [/quote]

Good boxer was Robert, I also remember something about him being stripped of the British title (cannot remember if it was the featherweight or super featherweight) due to a broken hand (or thumb).

If I remember rightly his fights vs Gun and Ali was for the WBC International title - one of the first times I can remember a junior belt being on the line.

Edit: Just checking and it seems like Boxrec don't credit Dickie with the title - but credit Gun (who Dickie beat) and Ali (who beat Dickie) as champions. Its quite clear that Dickie was a champion in between the two, so I hope he will get the credit.

I hope Teymour gets everything sorted out. He's a very decent fighter who is at least good enough to win a European belt.

Stu, I to remember very clearly Dickie going for an WBC International Title, I just can'r recall the opponent and your right Boxrec does not list this (yet).

Gun was for the WBC international title, as far as I know. Did Dickie really box for the scottish title?

Yes definately Gun for the WBC international title, its on fight night volume 4.

I didn't see much of him but I do remember Gordon Ferris losing to Neville Meade in a British Title fight. It was a dramatic KO with Ferris getting properly spaked out by the big hitting Meade.

First British or first full stop, cause I thought he was a challenger to Gun.

I definately remember it being quite a big thing and Newbon etc making an issue that this isn't a world title.

I think the international/intercontinental belts had some meaning if it continued its original idea. Fighters from 11-20 to fight for it, winner would get a top 10 ranking and eventually a mandatory challenge if he continued to defend it.

Unfortunately now its gone by the by now Mr TBA and Mr A Bum can challenge for it vs the prospect.

he had some blood disorder which a specialist in the field proved was not contagious and no risk to an opponent so he got his licence back.


Stu: the British title route is one he is considering, I think he is eligible next year

Personally I remember a black fighter called "Hobson". I am not sure but I would think he was a welter, light middle or there about from the fights I saw back then.

Last time I saw him fighting was in 89-90 or so. I remember than everyone was very impressed witrh his skill and speed.

Then I forgot about him and his fights were not aired any longer.... He seemed to be a huge star waiting to happen... only to disappear.
