Mike quit against Holifield (by trying to eat him and get himself disq) Lewis (by not fighting after the first round and doing a good impression of a punchbag) and Williams and Mcbride... (both times by doing a great impression of a man needing a midday snooze!)....

What is the point of this thread? Are we going to have the millionth debate of Tysons opponents, losses, etc? How many times are we gonna drag up the same old sh-t?

This thread has been done to death. Its not even the first Tyson debate this week, and they all go round in circles. If i were an editor i would lock it.

Just a bit of fun mainly and also to carry out a bit of social research!... I still love ole Mikey!.
The fact that you ask for this thread to be locked is interesting... can we do that when any fighter is criticised in a thread?... simply lock it??.... or does this apply to only certain fighters???

I'm not a Tyson fan. Im just sick to death of the exact same Mike Tyson thread repeated ad nauseum. I made a Pinklon Thomas thread regarding his illhealth and it was somehow dragged into yet another How Good/Bad was Tyson non-debate complete with all the overly familiar ear biting, arm twisting, quitting 'punch lines' that you're already fanning the flames for.

This debate has been to death and Boxrec needs a break from multiple Tyson threads for a while.

Well this is my first Tyson thread personally and I promise not to mention Pinky!...

How about something positive about old Mikey seeing as he did give us all a lot of excitement when he first won the title before that slag Givens fekked up his childish mind?

I thought his commentary on the international feed the other week was pretty good.

Tyson was a great fighter and a great man, when I was at his fan signing just before the first Ruddock bout he treated all of us very very kindly and he made sure he signed every autograph leaving no one left out, he also spoke to us like we were members of his own family which is pretty strange considering he was meant to be the most feared man in the world at the time.

Tyson however was no quitter, he took a beating from Douglas for 10 rounds until he finally scummbled, he fought 2 wars with Ruddock and Ruddock's famed 'Smash' couldnt dent Tysons chin. He fought a brave fight with Holyfield the first time around and in the rematch when Tyson bit his ear, it does annoy me when people say he bit his ear to prevent himself getting knocked out but Tyson was actually WINNING that third round very convingicly and it looked like Holyfield was in dire trouble. I believe Tyson 100% when he said he bit Holyfield in retiliation to the headbutting.

Lennox however is a different story, the man is obnoxiuos, pompous and a totally boring fighter, I find it funny when people say Lewis showed more 'Heart' than Tyson when he came back to beat Bruno while behind on the cards - But didnt Past it Tyson also knockout Frans Botha while he was trailing behind on the scorecards?
Also another thing I find amusing is that when people talk about the Tyson - Lewis fight, they say Tyson wasnt 'Shot' because Lewis is even older....but dont forget Tyson was the Undisputed HW champ before Lewis even turned pro! Hell Wilfred Benitez was shot when he was 23! But this doenst apply to Tyson when he fought Douglas, Holy or Lewis now does it?

I agree with the bit about Lewis being a boring fighter (not always though, the night he sparked your man Ruddock he was quite exciting for instance.) But too often for me he was too negative even when he had a man at his mercy - 2nd McCall fight for instance.

And, yes, he comes across as pompous on occasion, especially when he talks about himself in the third person.

But obnoxious? How does he qualify for that?

Tyson quit in several fights, thats a fact... the farce with Holifield was all about Tyson not wanting to be be battered by Holifield for a second time. It's easy...Mike Tyson was a savage beast It's better to discuss things about Mike Tyson rather then Antonio Margarito...now that's annoying.

Leewis in my opinion showed he was rude by how he speaks and how he thinks he is 'Superior' to everyone else, talking in the 3rd person as you said is one example, but also when he knocked out Rahman and showing off how hurt Rahman was by taunting him with 'Hasbeen Rahman'. Lewis never asked if he was ok, he just kept calling him that name but it was 'Hasbeen Rahman' who months earlier knocked him out flat.
Even when Lewis fought Golota, Lewis was jumping up and down like he had beaten a prime Ali and never showed sportmanship to his opponents, but Tyson however did and was always the first person to pick up his fallen opponent.

Well I may of used the wrong word, but Tyson certainly to me isnt the monster the media makes him out to be. Tyson certainly is no quitter either and if he was, he would of quit mid way through the Douglas bout or he would of quit when Ruddock had him in trouble during both fights.
As for the Holyfield rematch, Tyson was winning that 3rd round so I dont believe he quit just to prevent himself getting knocked out again. The McBride fight you cant hold against him because he was so shot if wasnt even funny, but Tyson may of not shown the heart of past greats like Ali or Holmes but Tyson was never taken out by a single punch - It was always a sustained beating while fighters like Lewis for instance get knocked out by a single punch from a journeyman and a Crackhead but no one ever questions his heart.
