Mayweather would have one hell of a night...but I think he would pick his punched as Basilio rushed into him. Mayweather would take this fight by decision. Unless basilio caught Mayweather against the ropes and unleashed the furry...then Basilio by stoppage.

Basillio's punch output would score enough points to take a close 15 round decision.

Mayweather is gaining in credibility and skills, today I'd bet on Basilio based on lifetime achievement but Mayweather could be headed to that critical mass of experience and wins that would change my bet. Just not yet....couple more fights maybe.

Basilio wins by stoppage in the middle rounds if they fought today, by KO in the later rounds if they fought in Basilio's era

Some other welterweights for the late 40s and 50 would take out Mayweather as well.
DeMarco, Gavilan, Saxton, and Bratton
That divison was a punchers division in those days

Pay no attention buzz...cosand is now claiming that Baldomir is better than Jose Luis Castillo and that he will easily beat Mayweather...LOL!!!!

Not to mention that cosands also is claiming that Ike Ibeabuchi is number 5 all-time heavyweight...I think that's about all we need to know about where cosands is at pertaining to boxing...LOL!!!

I like Mayweather but he's never faced anyone as strong as Basilo... he needs to do more at 147 before you can really judge him against someone like Carmen... but right now I think Carmen would be too strong for him... he'd be on Floyd all the time and he was probably one of the strongest and fittest fighters of his era... I see him wearing down Mayweather for a late stoppage win or points victory...

Basilio is a different fighter than Baldomir, but even with Basilio I would think that Mayweather would just pop him all night...Basilio was certainly a very strong welterweight, but he never had that big punch, which is what he would need to really do damage to Mayweather.

Basilo could hit hard enough to get Floyds respect, he wouldnt have beaten the people he did if he was a powder puffer... theres no evidence really that Floyd would have been able to outbox someone as strong as Basilo... Basilos record at 147 is in a different sphere to Mayweathers... if Carmen can give a peak Gavilan hell I dont see him not being able to tackle Floyd... I'd also rate the 37 yearold Robinson at 160 ahead of Floyd... Mayweather had a tough time keeping Castillo off, Carmen was a far stronger fighter altogether... his record and opposition speaks for itself...

Carmen would be going to the body... Mayweather doesnt actually move that much and he'd be right there for Carmen to hit to the body... infighting is pretty much a lost art now... Mayweathers body defence is often lax but he gets away with it because fighters always tend to go for the head nowadays...

There's no doubt about that...most fighters at 147 will hit hard enough to get Mayweather's respect, but the problem is simply...just being able to land on Mayweather! I cannot Mayweather, but he is a fantastic defensive fighter and will continue to be until he gets older and losses his speed, but as long as he has his speed Mayweather would be a formidable opponent for any welterweight...present and past and too beat him I think it will either take someone with similar speed and skill, or someone that can knock his head off with one shot, which Basilio couldn't do.

Basilio was as tough and as strong as they come, but he would have a hell of a time landing anything solid on Mayweather at his best!

I don't see Floyd being able to keep the distance between the two fo them that he needs. I believe a swarmer with a great punch output and an iron jaw will beat Floyd. I'm not sure that there are any out there good enough at the moment but with his natural size advantage I think Basillio would win this one.

It's very, very possible...I just wouldn't bet on it...one way, or the other!!

Basilo was very good at cutting down the distance between him and his opponent... having watched him against Gavilan and Robinson amongst others I think Mayweather would have a very tough time keeping him off.
Hopefully Floyd will stay at 147 for a while and clean up the divison, then we can judge him better, ...but if he just cherry picks fights and goes up to 154 etc then it wont prove much in the long run... even if he did clear up at 147 though the talent level today is only about 50% what it was in the 50s...
