Afternoon,

I was wondering if anybody or Martin had any news on his plight for a fight! from what I remember from his last post he would be fighting soon?

Last I heard he was with Dave Coldwell/Koncrete Promotions in Rotherham.

With Dave's SN connections I would expect his first fight of the season/career would be sooner rather then later.

Must be nearly 2 years since he started looking for a fight ?!?!??!

All I'd say on this matter from someone inside the game if you are a new pro with a relatively fair/average amateur career like Martin he would have no problems getting a fight if he really wanted to.

The question is does he really want to fight because quite frankly he seems to be all talk to me.

Well I'm afraid that's my view on Martin.

I see plenty of guys who are just happy to be known as boxers to tell there mates in the pub but when it actually comes to fighting they go missing.

I'm not saying Martin is like that but 2 years without a fight is not down to mis-management but down to him turning down fights and not backing up all the talk I see on the forums.

Coldwell has a bill soon so if he's not on that, there's something amiss.

Hes suffering from back problems at the moment and hes not sure when he will be boxing.

Well I guess thats our answer!

He sure does and sure has had a lot of bad luck..........

Painful for MT to read, but I think Jamie is telling the truth. I was thinking the same a while back.

MT was an okay amateur and there are a million and one jobs for those type of fighters on shows.

Ask Jamie or any other licence holder who makes matches and promotes.

This isn't a dig at MT and good luck to him if he does get into the ring professionally.

don't come on here as often as i used to,but saw this topic and thought i'd post a reply.
i signed martin a few months ago as he assured me he was very keen and up for boxing as soon as poss.
however,soon after signing i called him to make him aware the new season was on its way and he needed to make sure he was in shape so i can get him moving. unfortunately he was ill, and overweight and was hoping to get things sorted asap.so i cant make a match for him for the begining of sept because he was not prepared.
as the season started i spoke to one of his trainers who assured me he had NOT been training so i was better off not matching him for quite some time.
last contact again he was still overweight... but looking forward to getting his career underway??
not managed to get in touch with him for a few wks but just recieved a pm from him concerning a back injury and yep,still overweight.
so he won't be fighting yet.
i'm posting this not as a dig at martin but just because i'm tired of gettin stick over certain boxers career's when the problem is down to their own discipline or their own 'problems'.this is why sometimes boxers arn't as busy as some fans think they should be and it's often the managers or trainers that get the blame.
the main reason i'm posting this is because a few weeks ago i was informed by danny thorpe that he's been on every website trying to match himself up when yet he'd told me he wasn't ready,so therefore i was getting slated for not doing my job as a manager.
hope this clears things up for ya.

A BIT HARSH JAMIE I THINK.AS A FRIEND I CAN TELL YOU MT IS NOT ONE FOR BEING IN PUBS FOR A START,HE DOESNT TAKE TO DRINK.AND YES ITS BEEN A LONG TIME SINSE HE STARTED OR GOT HIS LICENSE BUT THERE ARE A LOT OF FACTORS INVOLVED BUT SAYING THIS ITS A LONG TIME TO GO WITHOUT A FIGHT.
HIS FIRST YEAR WAS IN FACT NOT DOWN TO HIS FAULT AND HE WAS FIT AND READY ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS BUT FIGHTS WERE OFFERED AND NEVER MATERIALISED.
HE HAS ALSO HAD A FEW PROBLEMS GETTING TRAINED DUE TO BREAKING AWAY FROM HIS LONG TERM TEAM AND WAS IN LIMBO LAND FOR A WHILE BUT HAD MADE UP WITH HIS LONG TERM SIDE AND I BELIEVE HE HAS DECIDED TO GO WITH DAVE COLDWELL DUE TO HIS CONNECTIONS AND ABILITY TO FAST TRACK HIM WITH REGULAR BOUTS................

OH AND I BELIEVE HE OFFERED TO FIGHT YOUR DAN GUTHRIE BUT YOU WERE NOT INTERESTED A WHILE BACK.ANYWAY GIVE HIM A CHANCE TO GET IN THE RING AND THEN SEE IF HES RUNNING FROM FIGHTING.

The reason we did not put Martin in to box Dan Guthrie was due to the fact when I spoke with his then Manager Mickey Helliett he told me Martin had turned down 2 or 3 fights at the last minute and we could not afford to take that risk.

I hope he does get his career up and running only time will tell I guess but then people on this forum have been reading about this impending debut for 2 years!!!!

im not bothered about what ppls opinions are at the moment as i have more things to bother about.but i assure you that mr helliet is a total liar if he did indeed say i turned down fights.i was offered a few fights that he said was offered for me but in the end noything happened,i even sought your opinion on one of these opponents in matthew crouch if you remember which he actually turned down i was told after a call to my work a few hours previous telling me to arrange things for going to bristol.
noone is pi**ed off more than me at the moment but yes a lot of it is down to me right now but i assure you all that the first year i was tottaly not to blame.

I admire your confidence in wanting to box Dan Guthrie on your debut but I feel it would be best for you to get a couple of fights under your belt first against less experienced boxers. Also I can't match you with Dan at present as he is moving up to 6 x 3's now.

My suggestion is to get fit, get a couple of fights under your belt before the end of the year and then we can look at that fight in the early part of next year.

im not wanting dan as my debut jamie.i respect dan as a fighter and i dont under estimate his ability.we can leave it till start of year and you n dave can talk it over.

jamie i think you're wasting your time . i'm sure his manager would rather him lose to one of alledgedly frank's lads

IVE HEARD TODAY FROM A CLOSE RELATIVE THAT MARTIN MAY BE CONSIDERING HANDING IN HIS LICENSE AS HE MAY FEEL THINGS HAVE BEEN STALLING TOO LONG.
HE IS/WAS A VERY GOOD TALENT AND ITS SAD TO SEE IT GO TO WASTE BUT HE HUNG AROUND TOO LONG GETTING IT STARTED AND MAYBE HES LOST THE HUNGER.I HOPE NOT FOR HIS SAKE AS HE OWES IT TO HIMSELF AT LEAST TO PROVE THE DOUBTERS WRONG.

Cheers to my good friend who just sent me the link to this thread. I see that once again this so called boxer is talking rubbish about me. Sorry but if he wants to fight it really isn't that complicated. Tommy Gilmour and Alex Morrison are 2 very good promoters/managers, surely if he wants to fight they should be his priority, the fact that he doesn't want to fight for them makes me slightly suspicious. There seems to be an endless stream of attention seeking messages sent by this guy claiming he wants to fight but little action. I have very little faith that he ever will fight.

ARE YOU SURE ITS THE SAME GUY JOMO? HIS MANAGER HAS BEEN ON HERE SAYING HE WONT BE FIGHTING FOR SOME TIME,SURELY NOT.IT WOULD COST TOO MUCH TO FLY OUT FOR HIM TO MAKE ANYTHING FOR A BOUT AT THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WORLD.IVE NOT HEARD ANY PLANS OF HIM FIGHTING THERE.
