I think Walcott was more skilled than Lewis, but Lewis was a skilled large HW, so it would be pretty hard for any smaller HW to get past the size disadvantage. I’d see it as Walcott providing a very difficult fight, but Lewis coming out on top via a competitive 15rd UD.

I don't give Joe much chance in this one. two things stick out, Joe could be KO'd and Lewis had the punch to do that. Lewis could be caught with right hands but Joe's bets shot was a left hook. Walcott has also got to get past that jab. i think it's too much for Jersey joe.

I don't rate Lewis too highly in all-time talk, but there is no denying his obvious skills and assets and I really do not see how Walcott could win this fight unless he just caught Lewis...which lesser fighters than Walcott accomplished, but as Ezzard stated, Walcott, though he had a good right, his best punch was the left hook. I think Lewis would fight one of his typical conservative bouts and win a points decision on the jab and straight right maybe scoring a late stoppage!

I'd give Joe a good shot at the upset. Lewis showed vs an old Evander and obviously vs McCall that he could be countered fairly easily. It's important to note that the big baddies Lewis beat throughout his career (Tua, Rahman, Briggs, Morrison, Grant) were not skilled in countering at all, and Lewis could stay on the outside with his reach and drop down right hands and uppercuts when they tried to get close. Vs Walcott, he'd fight a very finely conditioned, awkward guy to hit, and someone who was a MASTER counter-puncher. I see Joe catching him with a right hand-left hook counter and dropping Lennox for the count.

I'd go with Lewis I think because though both had somewhat suspect chins Lewis had the more power and would ultilise his advantages in height and reach... Walcott would probably be outpointed or koed late...

Lewis is simply too big for Jersey Joe. Wide UD or late KO for me too.

Excellent post. I think Lewis would win by a clear decision or a mid rounds KO, but I totally agree on the assessment that the guys Lewis beat were no counter punchers, and that Lewis was vulnerable against good counter punchers. In this fight I feel that Jersey Joe did not have the power to put Lewis away, and would have been hit a lot and eventually broken down by the bigger, stronger, harder hitting Lewis. I'm not saying that Walcott was a soft hitter, just that he did not have the power to 1 punch KO Lewis, and I cannot see him outboxing Lewis.

walcott did not have the one punch power to put lewis away? have u ever seen walcott on film? the man could hit!
