Get it made, considering Hatton had it written into his contract years ago the situation has become absurd!

Hatton v Witter is a way more meaningful fight than Hatton v Urango.

And surely if HBO are interested in Hatton v Urango they'd be interested in Hatton v Witter? Witter is way better than Urango.

Not scared but I dont think he fancies it much. Not when he can earn good money fighting a no mark like Urango anyway.

Well put sir. Hatton's career seems to have descended into a farcical lap of honour following the Tsyzu victory.

It's clear he struggles to take the dig of even a feather-fisted fighter at 147, so it's 140 all the way.

His targets post- Urango should be Witter, Cotto and Castillo.

But it's more likely to be Singwangcha, Hopkins and Diaz (either of them).

At last, hang out the fornicating flags you lot have finally got the hang of it..... Hatton does not want, has never wanted and will never want any part of Junior Witter.

He said Witter would have to become #1 or win a major belt first....he's done that.

Hatton say''s Rabbah and M'Baye were not big enough names yet agrees to fight Collazo and Urkal. Now M'Baye and Witter have belts he still doesn't want them.

Hatton is full of shot (12 stone of it by the look) and they have self destructed a great career) Witter should tell him to fornicate off and move on. Hatton needs Witter more than Witter needs Hatton.

Witter should tell him to win a belt or become #1 but better still to fornicate off.

Great Job Hobbo and Co!!!

If Hatton was to beat Witer and get the WBC title that could possibly bring a fight with Mayweather a step closer as he will be the WBC champion at 147 if he beats Baldomir???? Anyway the belts dont matter now according to the Hatton camp despite being on a belt hop the last year and a bit! fornicating joke!

Slightly farcical this thread. Why does Hatton NEED Witter?

Agreed, I'd like to see the fight made, and I don't think Hatton is keen on giving Witter the fight, but I don't think it's because he's scared of Witter at all.

Hatton last time I checked had a contract with HBO and has made more money in his last two fights than Witter has probably made in his entire career. That's partly because when he fought for Sports Network he never really made feck all money, and rarely was involved in any big fights. Aside to being fed to the lions against Judah, which I am sure was not a big payday by Hatton's standards, what other big 'opportunities' was he offered?

Hatton has done very nicely out of Hobson and co in terms of financial reward, and it's not totally down to them that he hasn't been involved in a big fight since. With Mayweather moving up, Gatti getting beat, Judah moving up and losing to Baldomir, etc, it's not like there are many fights to make, especially given that Cotto's people seem to have zero interest in fighting Hatton.

However, Hatton remains closer to a big career defining fight than Witter by far, because he is at least considered an exciting fighter by the American networks, and for that reason HBO are going to make opportunities for him. They are unlikely to be interested in Hatton v Witter however as they will fear that the styles will produce an ugly and boring fight. I don't think that would be the case as I think Hatton would soon get through to Witter sooner or later and force Witter to stand and trade. That's just my opinion however.

When Hatton was still with SN boxingchat, you were singing a very different tune as I recall, how expedient and coincidental that now he has flown the coop the talk is of Hatton being a coward and running scared of Witter.

Witter should concentrate on his own career, if he can get some big fights under his own steam, then there's a chance he will get a chance to fight Hatton. I suspect however, that either Witter or Hatton will get beaten before this happens, thus rendering the fight a moot point. Perhaps if BOTH were to lose we might see the two men face one another. If Hatton were to lose, perhaps Junior would give him a shot for the possibility of giving him a right going over, but who knows.

Hatton will be tied up for the next 2 fights. Urango and Castillo. Ideally he should fight Witter next instead of Urango - far more meaningful. But won't get him much more money. Urangos sighned though and Castillos after that.

Witter should unify against MBaiye - and call himself no1 in the division if he wins. Then Hatton-Witter for all 3 belts. If Witter does that and Hatton fights anyone other than Witter or Mayweather after Castillo, then its blatant ducking

Mbaye is with Sports Network, they are not going to put him in with Witter are they? Very unlikely. I think they'll try and use Mbaye to get Hatton back in the fold.

Yep agreed.

However, if Hatton gets past Urango and Castillo, it's Mayweather he's going to come looking for I think. He knows that at Welterweight, he'll be able to compete against Mayweather as Mayweather isn't a natural 147 lber and will fancy his chances.

And to be honest, if Hatton fights Mayweather, who in their right mind is going to want to look stupid and say he's ducking Witter?

one thing though, Fight Academy aren't making anything out of Hatton (Hobson admitted so to Boxing News) so this American money is being overestimated. Ricky's seeing a lot of it, but by a lot of reports, not many others are.

I'd like to see hatton take a different route. HBO have their blinkers on in terms of choice of opponent - in a way, it's sad that Castillo, whose name is fiflth right now, has been approved when there are so many other good light welters. Indeed, Castillo has never fought a 140-pounder.

It's funny, for his 2nd HBO fight he is facing someone who's nowhere near as good as Witter, Mbaye, Harris, Rabah - Juan 'Straight Ahead' Urango being the choice. A guy who got a gift vs Rabah, Hatton's old IBF mandatory that HBO wouldn't approve. The madness...

Hatton really has to decide where he's best off. He's had the paternalistic SN route. He's got two more fights for HBO, which are winnable, but certainly not super fights esp if Castilo is as slow as he was last x out.

When he wins his old belt back, there are two unifications he can have in the UK, Mbaye & Witter. He could do with being involved with ppl that can see the potential in that.

I agree with the other lesser :o James that the most likely way we will see Hatton-Witter is when they both eventually lose and it's the only avenue for a decent payday, a sort of end of career grudge match.

In fact I can really see this happening...

Possibly if Hatton loses in the next 12 months then someone might offer Witter big cash to defend against Hatton in the UK....

Shame really...

Well, I said from day one that Fight Academy probably would end up out of pocket. There's a reason Warren couldn't match the offer I think, and that's because they were offering him more than the fights were worth. 3 million for fighting Maussa! That's way too much, the figures just don't stack up, no way HBO are going to throw a fortune at a fight like that....

However, maybe they have gambled on the kudos of having Hatton in their stable and the benefits that brings, who knows, but with the massive slices of pie Hatton is getting figuratively and literally, that's a big gamble.

HBO probably picked Urango because he is a come forward fighter who will make Hatton look good (from my understanding of Urango anyway which is admittedly limited right now), which is perfect as they want to build up a fight with Castillo, and having him chace Rabah around the ring all night isn't the best way of doing that.

Castillo has fought 140+ fighters before so although not officially a force at 140, it's not beyond the realms of possibility that he is one, and he definetly has a name after his fights with Mayweather and Corralles, as well as Casamayor, Diaz and Lazcano.

It's an easy fight to sell given the styles and history of the fighters, and that's what matters to HBO.

if HBO would make an effort with the other quality fighters, and there are plenty at 140, there would be no shortage of top rivalries for Hatton. He would have his hands full in excellent fights. That's why Hennessey's ties with Golden Boy make things interesting. He can get Witter on HBO - put JW in with a Lazcano, who comes straight at him, chances are JW is able to mix some power into his cagey/awkward boxing.

Whats all this IF Hatton gets past Urango.... Urango is the worst current world champion (he shouldn't even be a champion).

Cotto is moving up to welterwight to fight Quintana, and will probably stay there. That means that if Hatton wants a genuinely big fight after Urango and Castillo, he'll have to either fight Witter or move up to take on Cotto or Floyd.

Only fighters that HBO will approve for Hatton:

-Castillo (his rep at an all time low, may not even be able to make 140, failed to make weight fr his last three outings Corrales II, Reyes, Corrales III aborted)
-Urango (relentlessly predictable fighter, who got the GIFT DECISION OF THE YEAR vs Hatton's ex mandatory Rabah)

I wouldn't say these are the ONLY fighters that HBO will approve. I'm sure if Hatton suggested the likes of Harris, Cotto, Quintana, Williams (Welters), Lazcano and a few others they would get accepted.

Is Castillo rep at an all time low, yes the pay masters might be watching is weight carefully - but still his last fight was arguably a career best win.

those i mentioned plus Lazcano, who pulled out vs Hatton.

Lazcano's notable performance - L12 Castillo, where Lazcano got absolutely outclassed and slashed up!

to me, Tszyu is a bigger win than Castillo.

HBO need to have a good look at M'baye, this man is superb

I would rule out the welters

I think the fight will only be made when Hatton loses. But even then, he might take a few "warm ups".

You mention Gatti. He was never a creditable opponent after what happened against Mayweather. Hatton shouldn't have been going after Gatti.

Hatton vs Witter is a huge domestic fight between two world class British operators. Why you don't want it to happen I do not know. People should want this fight to prove who the best in Britain actually is. Not only that, but Witter has a title now and it's a REAL title and Hatton is likely to have a title too so why not have a unification fight?

I think Witter will do well with his title and make a few defences. I hope he fights Harris next, then possibly a fight with Mbaye or even Castillo/Corrales. Now that he has a title, people will come looking for it.

I just can't understand how people can justify Hattons refusal to fight Witter now.
Where did I say I DIDN'T want this to happen. Of course I'd love to see this fight, however, I am not Ricky's promoter, manager or trainer, and all I am doing is providing the background to explain why this fight isn't likely to happen.

I yearn for the days when the best of British actually fought each other.

I mean we have a thread kicking around about Eubank v Watson at the moment, look what those two put into their 2 fights, put Benn in the mix with that aswell and the best British fighters were duking it out then with pride on the line.

Hatton should do the same and man up and face Witter rather than taking easy fights for his HBO dollars. Give something back to the fans who've made you a rich man Hatton you greedy shite!

A bit of a harsh assessment of Lazcano that..... outclassed? Nah, he lost definately but all the rounds were very competitive. Infact, he looked like he had the tools to beat Castillo but fought like the occasion got to him.

Look at all the good fringe contenders Lazcano has beaten... Stevie Johnston (who was looking good before the Lazcano defeat), Tackie, Burton, Molina, Spivey, Golden Johnson, Leija. He has an eliminator for the WBA belt next, so maybe Mbaye will get his opportunity to impress HBO by beating Lazcano - an excellent fight that will be.

Of course, Tszyu is a better win than Castillo - but I fail to see what is meant by that. If we are looking for better wins than Tszyu then he might aswell retire - cause only one fight he can have.

There is also Vivian Harris at 140 that would surely attract the US market.
