Nelson-Enzo off?

According to today's Sheffield Star Johnny broke down in training and the fight looks scuppered.

All we need is a Calzaghe pull out and we'll have Skelton-Williams 3 as a last ditch main event.

i.e. only an insomniac would be upset if Nelson retired!

Oh rite :D I am quick usually. Honest.
Obviously I meant from the point of view of him and his long and successful career, possibly ended before we can see him and 'the young pretender' fight.

And in any case, I now have Haye-Abdoul fight to counter any sleeping defficiency.

The cruisers have certainly done more than their fair share for the sleep deprived over the years!

Have they, I would disagree, there's actually been plenty of very exciting fights at top level at cruiserweight, just not involving Nelson.

This is really bad news then, guess it's the end of the line for Nelson, was always a risk at his age and with the previous injury, what a pisser really wanted to see if the old codger could do it against the young buck.

not really

nelson can be dull. but look at the fights in Britain alone over the years!

Mark Hobson v Sebastian Rothmann, Keaton & lee Swaby I
Carl Thompson v Eubank (both), Terry Dunstan, Rothmann, Haye, Ezra Sellers
Johnny nelson v Thompson wasn't exactly dull
Enzo Maccarinelli v Hobson, Bruce Scott

In America

Felix Cora v Mike Simms (both)
Vadim Tokarev v Felix Cora
O Neil Bell vs Mormeck, Kelvin Davis, Arthur Williams II
Mormeck-Braithwaite was pretty good

There's some terrific mathes upcoming, Steve Cunningham-Wlardcheck (sp), Bell-Mormeck II

I dare anyone to call these fights dull

someone tell me this thread is a sick joke

in what way did Nelson "break down"? ie mentally?

Was just a passing comment, we've had some stinkers too.

Nelson v De Leon
Nelson v Warring
Haye v Abdoul
Hobsons fight the other week

Of course there have been some pearlers, my favourite Cruiserweight fight in a British ring has to be Sellers v Thompson that was unbelievable.

Please don't be true.

This fight is long overdue & it could be a cracker.

Even after the fight had been formally announced and tickets went on sale, Nelson said in his column on skysports.com that he'd not actually signed a contract for the fight, and that made me wonder. If the fight has been announced and tickets are being sold, then obviously a contract has been drawn up and sent out, yet Nelson publicly stated that he'd not signed one.

If this rumoured pull-out is injury related then fair enough, but maybe Nelson is not happy with the purse on offer and in any event he's probably not impressed with the state of things; its pretty clear that Warren, the WBO and ITV all want Enzo as the next champion. Nelson is, in all honesty, at the end of his tether and yesterday's news, the sooner he is replaced, the better (as far as the WBO, ITV and Warren are concerned).

This is just speculation on my part, but like I said when Nelson publicly stated he'd not signed a contract, I thought something might be amiss.

I think ITV and Warren need a quality 50-50 fight like this. I don't reckon Warren would want Nelson to pull out, making Enzo champ by default. Just means that Enzo becomes an anonymous title holder - UNLESS they substitute Nelson for Hobson again...

Frank hasn't delivered quality with consistency. Best main events he's put on - apart from Calzaghe-Lacy - were the heavyweihgt toss. That's why I believe he made sure to get Woods-Johnson III. Even though Calzaghe lost out on his title shot, Warren promoted a great fight and made ppl happy watching it.

might as well. that's exactly how the 1st fight was put together & would arguably be better than Enzo-Nelson.

Makes sense, and it might be the only credible option.

Definitely the worst fight I have ever seen. I was 16 at the time can remember sitting down to watch it all excited then being utterly bemused by the lack of action.

lol, i remember maxboxing's Martin Mulcahy putting Nelson in the top 10 cruiserweights of all time. Among his best 'achievements', MM states, is a draw with Carlos Deleon

I remember looking forward to the fight, but getting the date wrong... when I realised I rushed home to find it over.

Thank god.

I've never actually seen the fight. I'm almost tempted to get hold of a copy, just to see how bad it is.
