'I'M SCARED I'LL GET ARRESTED': CALZAGHE
IBF and WBO super-middleweight boss Joe Calzaghe fears he could be arrested if Jeff Lacy gets his rematch wish granted.
The undefeated Welshman gave Lacy a boxing lesson back in March to unify the WBO and IBF belts in one of the best displays by a British fighter in living memory.
However Lacy, who will have his first fight since that drubbing in December on the Winky Wright - Ike Quartey card, insists he is after a rematch with Calzaghe in 2007.
A bemused Calzaghe, preparing to defend his titles against Sakio Bika at the MEN Arena on October 14, said: "Is this guy crazy or is he still concussed?"
"I can give Lacy 1006 good reason why he should not get a rematch against me because that's the number of times I landed with punches on the night and I can count the number of times he caught me on one hand - four.
"Lacy will never be the same fighter again after the one-sided beating I gave him and how can he call for a rematch when the first fight wasn't even close or controversial?
"The only controversy is why his corner didn't pull him out of the fight sooner.
The 29-year-old Lacy took a fearful beating against Calzaghe and many ringside observers felt he should have been pulled out well before the final bell.
Calzaghe added, "If Lacy gets in the ring with me again I'm scared I will get arrested for aggravated assault!
"Anyway, it's his buddies in Florida (Winky Wright and Antonio Tarver) that I'm gunning for and both on the run from me.

can't really argue with any of that.
lacy was thrashed beyond belief wasn't he.
absolutely no interest in seeing a return.
although i'd rather see a return than the bika fight.

The question is: when will Calzaghe fight a decent oponent who is not taylor-made for him. The last time was in 1999 (Robin Reid).

Lacy shouldn't be allowed back in the ring with Calzaghe for his own safety!
Maybe if he gets a few impressive comeback wins then it could happen down the road but right now forget it!

No need for a rematch. I can't really believe Lacy is all that keen on one anyway. He was totally outclassed. Also I can't see Lacy bringing anything new to a rematch.

Mundine is moving down to middleweight.
Lacy should fight Allan Green, he'd beat him pretty easily.

If Lacy wants to progress he needs to fight a moving target. If not Mundine, what about Beyer (if he doesn't retire after the Kessler fight)

Beyer has been troubled by far worse fighters than Lacy. Lacy with a couple of wins under his belt is still a top 5 supermiddleweight he just would never match up well with someone like Calzaghe. Lacy would KO Beyer quite quickly.

The fight was even on the scorecards. Beyer focused on body-punching, and apparently Catley wanted to quit before the round in which he stopped Beyer.
Still, it was one of Beyer's poor performances, as he said himself.

Wanted to score yet it was a close fight. Why didn't he quit then before the 12th? Yet he came out.

That is precisely what the main problem is with boxing, more than teh abc's, more than the constant 12 rounds distant fights, more than the big fat darts players calling themselves heavyweights-it's the 'oh he'd beat him anyway so he may as well wait 12 or 18 months until so and so's available' crap.

he was only a 3 1/2 year pro. Anyone who steps into that class at an early stage loses.
look at the 3rd & 4th year losses of Mormeck, Margarito, etc etc, they were losing to ppl well below Catley's level at the same stage in their careers.

People are too quick to write Lacy off, Calzaghe was punch perfect that night I doubt he could ever fight such a faultless fight again against anyone.
But lets not forget what Lacy did to Robin Reid who has a cast iron chin. And he's beaten some decent fighters.

Wasn't that a mandatory though? Mind you, since when did the WBO enforce their mandatories? I thought normally you had a quiet word with them, and they got back to their paper shuffling.
