Herbie Hide is Back

Herbie Hide looked spectacular in his first comeback fight yesterday, September 23, 2006, dropping an overmatched Mitch Hicks (3-5) four times before the referee mercifully stopped the fight at 1:24 into the first round.

Hide tipped the scale at 198 lbs. Hicks was 196 lbs

still dont know why the cut eye loss to Kalikauskas was such a huge blow...he could still have carried on
by the way when the fans at the infamous Aforce /matthew ellis fight were chanting for Aforce to fight Bruno .... i was absolutely chanting for Hide ..... those fans were ghouls

Haha the funniest thing about that fight was Ellis had audley out on his feet at one stage.

the opponent was terrible though - was an 8 fight novice and had 5 losses.
STill he had a good nickname ' Hold my beer'.
I look forward to Herbie self destructing and getting Ko'd....

In addition, after a 30-month absence, two-time WBO heavyweight champion-turned cruiserweight Herbie Hide (36-4, 35 KOs) returned to action in spectacular fashion, dropping an overmatched Mitch “Hold My Beer” Hicks (3-6) four times before the referee mercifully stopped the fight at 1:24 into the first round. Hide tipped the scale at 198 lbs for the bout.

i thought they were taunting harrison with bruno`s name more than anything. bruno had hung up his gloves nearly a decade earlier.
to the british public big frank was boxings version of red rum.
i think harrison wanted to take that spot occupied by cooper/ bruno in the past (general public`s favourite fighter) and i think the crowd were saying no chance.

I see this was on Stacey Goodsons card. He is doing quite well being able to get Joe Mesi to fight in Arkansas and now Herbie.
Looking at the bill though, it must have been one of the quickest shows in boxing history.

Re 4 knock downs in 90 seconds, Goodson said he made a mistake - basically underestimating Hide when putting Hicks in with him. This makes him the world's most stupid promotor, or a born liar. Mismatches are sadly quiet often the case these days though.
What do you think Herbie can go? Saturday nights opponent was obviously not much of a measuring stick, but nevertheless it looks like Herbie still has the punch, and unless he's grown a thick beard of a steel wool consistency, he still has no chin. An exciting combination.
A 3 year fight deal with Warrier was it? What do you think they plan for him? Fights like these going nowhere but looking good, or gamble on the punch and step him up fast looking for a title shot?

Hide is being promoted by Lion Heart Boxing Productions.
His next scheduled fight is October 28, 2006 at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City against Imamu Mayfield (25-7-2), former IBF Cruiserweight Champion.
Hicks, unfortunately for him, was just sacrificial lamb to tune up Herbie.

Has he fough recently?

Mayfield has been on a few ESPN cards, generally losing... still a bit of pacifist. Could be interesting as he could punch.
He looked disinterested when I last saw him vs Clay Bey two years back, but his form isn't that bad. He has beaten Peter Okhello (who somehow is fighting for the Heavyweight title) in 2002 and drew with Taurus Sykes two years back. He is 1-3 in his last 4 outings though.
If Immanu catches him half decent this thread could be edited to "Herbie on back".

Before the fight,he was on camera saying he feels ready for Lennox Lewis,and would fight him straight away if he could!!!
He then walked to the ring dressed in a tuxedo!
Then proceeded to get beat by some part time,bar room brawler type from Eastern Europe!!!!

I remember watching him in his first defeat.
Before the fight,he was on camera saying he feels ready for Lennox Lewis,and would fight him straight away if he could!!!
He then walked to the ring dressed in a tuxedo!
Then proceeded to get beat by some part time,bar room brawler type from Eastern Europe!!!!
That bar room brawler is now champion of the world. Hide's problem asa heavyweight was his size. A good big man will always beat a good small man. As a cruiserweight, Hide is the good big man fighting small good men.

Mayfield is the former IBF Cruiserweight Champion of the world.
Mayfield's last fight was 2006-03-25, against top ten ranked cruiserweight Krzysztof Wlodarczyk (34-1) of Poland. He lost a 12 round decision to the Polish fighter in Poland (not that I am suggesting that Mayfield got robbed as his management team claims).

You've clearly got the wrong end of the stick, he is talking about Magic Mathew Ellis.
