What Impact Can Mundine Make At Middleweight?

Keep on hearing that Anthony Mundine is going down to middleweight. Would this prevent him from being effective, can he make that weight without being weak & will he be better taking on 160-pounders?

Mundine is a natural middleweight, but like at SM he's just not quite good enough to beat genuine world class.

I don't care if he can or not, just get out of the way of Calzaghe/Kessler.

I'd have him at #3 at both middle- and super-middleweight.

Mundine is pretty much out of the way, as he was WBA #1, I doubt Andrade steps aside any more, hence why Kessler's ppl are already making plans for Kessler-Andrade

Mundine's never been a Middleweight so how is he a natural one?
He was much heavier when he did Rugby too.

Taylor would destroy Mundine.

He is small for a SM and his trainers are confident he can make 160 easily. At 160 he will at least be the same size as his opponents instead of smaller.

Not sure, Mundines speed, skill and movement may be a problem. Is an interesting match up

Taylor has just fought 3 pretty even fights (no matter how you scored them) with 2 of the best pound for pound fighters in the sport and guys who seldom lose any rounds. And you're telling me he's going to be troubled by a guy who lost to Manny Siaca? I don't think so.

Well, Mundine has come along well hasn't he? Totally dominated Green. & look how good Green looked in his last fight.
Mundine probably has superior speed and athleticism to Taylor. Maybe he'll be vulnerable at 160. I doubt he'll be as timid as he was at super middle. IMO he can make an impact.

Mundine lost to Siaca but had a bad ankle injury and took him to lightly, The Mundine that just beat Green would destroy Siaca ,Mundine has been getting better with every fight lately and would give Taylor all sorts of problems. Taylor had a lot of trouble with Wright and Mundine is quicker than him with more power.

Well lets see Mundine actually make 160 and see how he looks before we say he's a threat to anyone especially Taylor! I can't see how he beats Taylor.

Styles make fights, maybe Mundine would have beat BHOPs and Winky - big if there but Mundines good. Mundine had a twisted ankle against Siaca

not true..he was lighter when he played for st george...when it was rumoured he was going back to rugby league, about 18 months ago they said then he'll have to lose about a stone to get back to his old playing weight..
he was pretty slight when he played league and has bulked up alot since boxing...

He'd have to dehydrate to make middle though.
Plus he's winning at SM and doing well.
He looks fine at 12 stone, doesn't look weak or sick looking at weigh ins.

Looked bigger on old rugby pictures.

His trainers have said he dosn't have to try to make 168 and he could easily make weight at 160, Roy Jones Snr is the one who first suggested it and at 5 10-5 11 he shouldnt be dehydrated.
I think his playing weight at St George was low when he started but at the time of his departure he was around 85-90Kgs.

Mundine beat Hopkins and Winky? Get out of here!

Maybe not but possibly, his speed alone would cause problems, we saw how RJJ easily beat a young fresh BHOPs, its not impossible a similar fighter could UD an old BHOPs. As for Winky, lets see how well he does versus fighters his own size, in against a bigger faster more powerful fighter could see him lose.

RJJ back then was in a different league to Mundine. Can't believe you are even making that comparison!

Mundine has a similar level of raw talent to RJ - whose dad, incidentally, trains Anthony. Difference to RJ is that Mundine spent most of his time in a different sport, while Jones had been boxing for a long time, including an excellent amateur career.

Frightening to think what Sven Ottke would've done to RJJ in the ring.

You cant even compare Jones Jr and Mundine. Jones Jr is arguably one of the most gifted fighters/athletes of alltime Mundine doesn't even come close. A prime RJJ could have beaten Siaca hopping on one leg with one arm tied behind his back.

Speaking of Middleweights, does anyone think series 1 contender champion Sergio Mora stands any chance vs the top ten. I have to say, he impressed me alot last time against the decent (and massive) Eric Regan.
That was a step up for Mora, and he passed the test with flying colours. A lack of punch power is his main downfall.
