Sounds like Macklin's "Irish" rival was in a similar thriller vs Campas, but emerged victorious. Here is the fightnews report.

Unbeaten middleweight phenom John Duddy (17-0, 15 KOs) passed his biggest test to date on Friday night with a hard fought unanimous decision over former world champion Ramon "Yory Boy" Campas (88-8, 72 KOs) at the Madison Square Garden Theater in New York City. Duddy chose to trade punches with Campas (one of the bigger pure punchers in boxing history) early which did not work out too well. Duddy was cut over both eyes and wobbled by Campas in round two. In round four, Duddy adjusted his tactics and outboxed Campas. Campas was still doing good work in the fifth thru seventh, but as the fight wore on, Duddy seemed fresher than the heavy-handed Campas and finally staggered Campas in the eighth round. Round nine was a big round for Duddy who was in command until the twelfth when Campas hurt Duddy and closed the show strong. With the win, Duddy claims the IBA middleweight title. Scores 115-113, 117-111, 116-112

Sounds a bit too easy to hit to make it much further, he will learn from this though.

Duddy's fight with Campas was even more entertaining than the Moore v Macklin fight

Two absolutely amazing fights yesterday, it was the best day for boxing for many a year. You hardly ever get 2 fights like that in one day!

Gutted I didn't stay up for it, noticed the free stream on current scene

Do you know what channel they were on, if it was ESPN then Channel 5 might show it next Friday. I hope so as it's not on WBVA either.

It wasn't on any specific channel. MSG.com streamed the fight and used their own cameras.

Maybe you'll find it on youtube within a week or so ..... You never know. It's well worth a watch, believe me!

I would imagine it was on local TV inNew York. Alot of Duddy's fights are, I'll probably be getting a copy of it.

What does it say about Duddy though that he had a war with Yory whose been shot for the past 6 years or so.... I dont think he'd even had a fight for the past 2 years!...

Campas has been keeping busy as a Middleweight, but is very faded. Since DLH he has sprung one surprise win vs then undefeated Esteban Camou... However, he has lost wide to Eric Regan (all wrong style wise for Campas) and on a split decision to Matt Vanda.

Campas was in the best shape I've seen him in many many many years. He wasn't 'shot' at all last night, he was in immense form. Even the commentators expected him to be shot (and so did I) but man were they amazed, he looked like the Campas that beat Raul Marquez

If Vanda hasn't retired he'd make a decent next fight for Duddy. Unless he really wants to step it up, that is. But at this point I reckon he should test himself against another fighter of a similar calibre to Campas to see what kind of level he's at. Vanda would be perfect for that.
