I've noticed that Jim Watt comes in for a fair bit of stick on forums at times but just wanted to say I think he called the fight on friday night absolutely spot-on!

I dread to think what Duke McKenzies commentary for that fight would have been like!!

Old Jim is often guilty of being negative, but thats only coz he's a miserable old bastard,

But to be honest, I think he's one of the best boxing commentators in the world.

Jim Watt, and Teddy Atlas = Awesome

Larry Merchant, and Adam Smith = My worst nightmare!!!!!

Jim Watt seemed to get behind Moore and ignore Maklins work to the body, but as it turned out he was right. I wanted to put my foot through the screen during his commentary of Hatton vs Tszyu but on the whole his commentary is OK.

Ian Darke is a bit of an unsung hero behind the mic, he points out what you can't see happening in the corners and holds a good conversation about events. I can't stand commentry when it insists on thrusting its scorecard down your throat all the time.

Teddy Atlas is way ahead of any other commentator...he points out things happening that most of even the most ardent boxing fan won`t have noticed...lets be honest

Jim Watt is good..infact very good...but nowhere near to Atlas`s level.

But Duke McKenzie ....he lags behind even the terrible John Rawlings...both may be great fellas but commentating isn`t their thing is it

Yeah really like watching Atlas' commentary. ITV could do with someone like him who could actually explain some of the more technical aspects to the public.

watts the best we`ve got in the u.k imo.
when sky drafted him in from itv he started off by doing the less high profile shows whilst darke and mccroy took all the big contests.
within about 3 weeks watt was the main summeriser.

A guy this week in the BN letters page was praising Duke as an excellent analyser, some people must be easily pleased.

I reckon Jim is better than Atlas. I'm sure Teddy's know-it-all style would start getting on people's nerves if we had to listen to him week in week out.
Plus the guy is an out and out nutter right? His bio admits he went looking for one of his ex fighters who'd left him, Donny LaLonde, with a gun and planned to gun him down.

No wonder everyone agrees with him on air, I know I would!

Plus Jim has actualy been in the ring at the highest level. Atlas never made it to the pros.

I find Atlas tedious in the extreme. He has some very interesting technical insights, but the trouble is he just spots something and then bangs on and on about it for the rest of the fight.

"He's gotta step out to the left and bring over his own southpaw lead right over the jab if he's gonna be effective in this fight, right now he's just letting him tee off with his jab."

"Again, you see it there, he takes the jab flush because he didn't take that half step to the left."

"Look, there he does it again, this guy's just not thinking right, he's gotta step to the left."

....and on and on and on and on....ad infinitum. It's like he feels the guy can hear him and that if he bangs on about it long enough he'll eventually get it. Mind you, with Teddy's voice, maybe the guy CAN hear him, after all he is at ringside.

No doubt about it, Teddy's a bit of a loon, he pulled a shooter on Tyson as well.

Watt's definitely better to listen to than McCrory.

Watt does that too though

You hit the nail on the head. Don't get me wrong Atlas is very good, but having to listen to him every Friday can be annoying. He does tend to pickup on something and will not let it go.
