Conteh was stripped of his WBC belt for not taking on Cuello. Never seen Cuello fight, wasn't alive at the time of the shenanigans, were there any reasons why Conteh did not fight him?

Was it by personal choice? Or something more shady..?

Twas something to do with British Boxing Board of Control.

I think it was just a general result of Conteh f***ing up his career at that point. He was taking all manner of advice from his friends & family, his brother mainly I think, and decided the money was't good enough or something like that. Then got stripped. That's how I remember it anyway.

Getting on the wrong side of the then powerfull Mr Duff didn't help matters either I imagine.

Wasn't JC the first British fighter to declare himself self managed? I seem to remember reading about the stir it caused.
