"Before his return match with Joe Louis, Jersey Joe WALCOTT stated that he had been hit harder by other heavyweights, namely Tommy Gomez, whom he rates the most terrific puncher he's met; Curtis Sheppard, Elmer Ray and LEE Q. Murray. Louis, on the other hand, said he still could hit as hard as ever. Jersey Joe now agrees..."



Tommy Gomez very unknown is one of the hardest heavyweight punchers of the 1940s despite only weighing 185lb. he could hit like a superheavyweight.


Walcott faced a murderous list of punchers like tiger jack fox, joe louis, lorenzo pack, hatchetman sheppard, lee Q murray.........so for walcott to call gomez the hardest hitter hes faced.....thats impressive

P4P Tommy Gomez was one of the heaviest hitting fighters of all-time...he scored mostly clean knockouts...not a whole lot of TKO's in his career and he knocked out some very tough fighters...one that immediately comes to mind was Gunnar Barlund, who had never been KO'd...he had been TKO'd mostly because of bad cuts, but Gomez brutally knocked him out! I'm not completely sure, but I cannot recall that Barlund was ever knocked down until Gomez!

One fight that should have ended in a knockout but didn't was Gomez-vs-Bob Satterfield! Two of the hardest hitting fighters of all-time, neither with the best of chins and the bout goes ten rounds...
