Because he avoided Hagler for a second fight.

Do you think he wouldn't have been gifted a second decision then?

I think for anyone to have taken the fight seriously, he would've had to give Hagler the concessions Hagler gave him. If he said I'll fight you on my terms, it's the ultimate "I'm a bitch" move. Hagler did whatever he had to to get the fight, and he still should've won. Leonard knew he would've been screwed in a rematch because where Hagler went wrong was painfully obvious. Giving away early rounds put him in a hole, and a second match, Hagler would've come out like a banshee. Smaller ring and 15 rounds, Leonard gets KOed in the 14th.

Dont disagree at all. The only qualification i would add is, if they fought 6 times Marvin would have to KO SRL for the win. Anything other than a one sided beating would have ended in a dubious decision.

Matty151 and the rest of the Hagler nut hugger gang still crying because their southpaw plodding hero was made to look silly and blew his big chance. In a rematch SRL would have made him look even worse. Hagler was a one dimensional fighter, no footwork, slow, plodding, and worse yet a south paw.....

Many of those who know boxing picked SRL to win years before the fight ever occured.

Maybe Ray is just lucky and has good genetics.

Might be genetics to some degree, but I'd say it's more a simple thing called "taking care of yourself."
Amazing what kind of shape you can stay in in if you, um, work to stay in shape. Turning into a fat, lazy, bastard isn't some unavoidable fate like death and taxes - but it does take consistency and self-discipline, two qualities in distressingly short supply in most modern, wealthy societies.
(I mean "wealthy" in the sense that getting enough food isn't exactly hard, which covers e.g. the vast majority of Americans.)
He's still a non-rematch-giving wanker, though ... he's just a very physically fit non-rematch-giving wanker. One more thing the Hagler fans can hate him for. ;)

Hagler also still looks in great shape and younger than his years.

Well, it's tough to get old living the good life in Italy.

The explanation is simple - black don't crack.

That's what I was thinking.
He could easily pass for a guy in his 30's.
He obviously dyes his hair, because you must have grey hair at 50, but he still looks the biz!!!!

It's cool that Marvin and Leonard are aging well, nice to see. As I like them both. Flip side is Pernell Whitaker and Meldrick Taylor.
It doesn't always workout well, sadely

Leonard does look like a guy in his mid-late 30s facially, and younger body wise. Hagler also looks in really good nick for a middle aged man. How is Tommy Hearns faring, havent seen him on tv for ages?

Hearns is making a comeback of sorts, well lets just say he has had a couple of fights. They talked to him on Friday night fights awhile back and he said he wants to get back into boxing.

Yeah, but Tommy Hearns was already slurring when he appeared on the Tonight Show after his fight with Juan Roldan.

Yeah, Sugar Ray is like 52 I think. He was 24 when he fought Duran the first time back in '79. He does look great for his age. He obviously takes great care of himself...I can only imagine all the hot, 20-something year old chicks who still love him for his looks.
