Calzaghe won the world title against Eubank. He's averaged 2 fights a year since then, hasnt been overly busy, although has been plagued by injuries. So, considering its widely thought he'll retire at the end of 2007, who do we think he'll fight in the next 14months ?

Well Joe has stated yesterday that he won't be fighting in the US in his next fight, and that he would like his next fight in Feburary then a big one at the Millenium Stadium in the summer.

Maybe Clinton Woods can get a shot in one of those.
As for Calzaghe, i'm slightly concerned that he may be taking Bika a bit to lightly. This South African is no mug.

I thought Bika was from Cameroon but settled in Australia? I'm sure I read thast somewhere??

Anyway back to the subject at hand, while 9 years is some achievement you can't help thinking Calzaghe has missed the boat as far as big fights go. Over the years there were plenty of big names in the division above and below where big fights could have been made. Although there are still some good fights out there he seems to have missed out on the true megafights. Jones, Hopkins etc. I can't really see where these proposed 'megafights' are right now.

There is'nt a true 'mega fight' on the horizon for Joe.
Facing Woods or Kessler/Beyer is not on the same level as Paquiao v Barrera,PBF v Hatton/DLH/Moseley etc....these are what I would label mega fights.

Shame,but Joe seems to have missed the boat somewhat.

Check boxrec ranks 20-30 in the middle- and light-middlweight rankings.

There has been a bit more noise in the press about a Kessler fight, Calzaghe himself has even mentioned that fight now where he had dismissed it in the past. And with HBO picking up Kessler v Beyer and showing Calzaghe v Bika you'd think they might push for a full unification bout. I really hope so!
