Got an e-mail today as others no doubt would have also from Dominic Foley at the extortinately priced Fight FocUS. They have ceased trading, surely Foley was one of the leading Boxing traders and a regular in Boxing classifieds. It was his reasons that surprised me more than anything. Any thoughts?

FIGHTFOCUS HAS NOW CLOSED

I just wanted to let you know that I’ve retired from the boxing business and
that, sadly, fightfocUS has reached its journey’s end. Whilst I feel thoroughly
privileged to have had this business and certainly it’s been a most enjoyable
number of years, I now find it to conflict with my Islamic faith and this last
month ceased to trade.

I am currently fulfilling outstanding orders and am open for any correspondence
but will not be taking any further requests.

I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank you for all your custom
and support and extend my warmest regards for you in the future.

Yours sincerely,

Dominic M. Foley

I will never forget when he excitedly announced he was branching into DVD's. The e-mail said something like "£20 + p&p for any 2 hour disk of your choice!!". I mailed him and said mate you are on another planet.

Yeah, I got the same e-mail.

To be honest I used him a few times years ago and found him friendly and reliable but I stopped using him about 4/5 years ago due to his shocking prices.

I still fing it hard to believe that people were willing to pay so much.

Yeah bit of a bizzare letter..I guess his middle initial M must now stand for Mohammed?

I'll say it again, you wont go wrong with DVD's from Red Dragon. Great prices too.

Lads,

I had a similar email - after his name being mentioned in the fight fayre thread. I thought I would ask again to see if he would respond regarding trading - and I got a similar message (at least I got a reply or not).

I do have to say pricey or not, the guy does have some very rare stuff on his collection. I'm making an honest suggestion here, shall we create some kind of syndicate to buy him out and trade his collection to other members of the syndicate - to boost all out collections.

I think it would be an idea worth considering, it would be a shame if these fights to go to waste.

I also noticed Birmingham based "Fights For You" are up for sale as well, why the sudden departure of our over priced trading friends?

I believe the conflict with his faith is due to having the images of these fighters. On the day of judgement you will be asked to breathe life into these images.

Probably because Islam forbids usury and extortion :TU:

Ebay is the best, you can get full sets for silly money.
You can't get 'em off ebay any more. They've clamped down hard on it, on the grounds of copyright theft.

Career sets are shit anyway. Like Fried Bread says (good seller btw, whom I've traded with) you buy 8 discs and 1/2 the fights are useless.

Guy was a twat. Stopped using him 6 years ago. Charged rip off prices for VHS 2nd gen copies of every brand new PPV event, most his Sky stuff was also copied off someone else, ad breaks left in, cheap VCR used... Plus when speaking to him he always came off as a aloof prick.

I'm sure the real reason he's out of business is because few people will pay his extortinate prices so he can't operate at a profit any longer.

"Conflicts with my Islamic faith"... what a c-nt.

Ha ha Overhand i don't agree with everything you say but i do concur with the above statements (now there is aloof for you!) :TU:

Funny how the guy made a pretty penny, and then when it becomes a hassle, he claims religious beliefs....selling copying tapes and DVDs is always living on borrowed time, and he knew it was coming to an end.

In America, it's becoming very iffy selling fights recorded off TV. HBO and particularly Showtime & Don King take very badly to it - not that they make these fights readily available, mind. So if you have a website that anyone can have a look on - as FightFocUS did - you cetainly are on borrowed time. If you advertize in the back of a Uk magazine, however, you're pretty safe. The likes of Warren, as well as ITV/Sky could easily have got a lot of ppl closed down over the past 20 years, but haven't. Because they know that they're not making these fights available to anyone.

The law can say one thing, ie you can't sell stuff recorded off TV. But there are unspoken laws. i.e. if I pay my TV licence, if I subscribe to all the channels, if I buy the blank discs, if I buy £400 DVD recorder, I'll be fvcked if it isn't mine.

Eventually these laws will go too far. I think it was to do with new HD hardware, where you can only watch a bought DVD so many times, one ONE DVD player.

Hi,

Is anyone interested in that syndicate idea? Lets not forget if he is prepared to sell his collection, then I suspect it will be his master copies - not second generation videos he has been selling to the likes of Overhand?
