He was a great jr welterweight champion that could have been much greater if he would have "just say no".

Overrated.
Very good fighter, definitely. Awkward and hard to deal with.
But he's not beating the likes of Duran & Napoles at 140lbs as I've seen & heard some claim.

No one ever stays retired from anything regarding boxing. I want to drag some more Pryor thoughts from Jaclem even though i've been reading them since 2001 or 02 anyway. I find it a bit tiresome that some people seem to want to constantly take a dig at Pryor... ok he didnt realise his true ability but he still did quite a bit in his career... give the guy some credit!...

ok...turning your life around gets some points certainly.....however more points are given for going the right direction to begin with.

...okay....i won't go into my general assessment of aaron the fighter....i've said so much already...but....
....i don't recall aaron getting knocked down more than once...maybe twice.....although he did take some hellacious shots. at the start of his career in cincinnati a sports writer misquoted me...claiming i said that aaron couldn't take a punch....which of course was far from the truth....aaron could take a punch....i said he couldn't KEEP ON TAKING THOSE PUNCHES..which is a different thing (he liked to stick his jaw out and invite one to show how tough he was)...and i think his comet-like career gave some credence to my prediction.
his pattern usually went like this:...he'd come out with a furious onslaught and if that didn't take his guy out he'd slow down and box a little more...though staying aggressive but much less so....especially as the fight went on. those who saw him in cincinnati were surprised when he just kept coming against arguello and didn't tire. (I've already said much about the black bottle....probably too much.)
now... this is the first time that i'll disagree with buzzo on a thread about pryor....but it's not about his boxing career.
aaron's early life story could have been written by strephan king....a real horror....most would have been destroyed by it..and aaron too, probably, if buddy larosa hadn't virtually taken over his life and directed him into boxing. even then, his post boxing life was disastrous.....my son saw him conked out in the back of a car and swears he weighed no more than 120 pounds....an anti-narcotic poster guy. again..buddy and some others stepped in and pryor made a remarkable turn around and is a productive citizen.....doing a lot of good work with helping young guys escape from the depths that he himself had risen from.
you all know how i rate him as a fighter....as a human being i rate him very high...

Given Aarons upbringing its hardly surprising that he strayed off the rails is it??.... the remarkable thing imo is that he was able to acheive so much after coming from such a background!... not all of us are so saintly Buzz that we dont make mistakes in our lives, in Aarons case he came from the most dysfunctional of backgrounds... we're not talking here about some spoilt brat born with a silver spoon in their mouth messing up!...BoxBuzz wrote:ok...turning your life around gets some points certainly.....however more points are given for going the right direction to begin with.

..let's not be too hard on buzzy....after all, he himself had a troubled youth....raised by a bisexual eskimo and a diet of whale blubber until he was in his thirties...

woah....I didnt mean to sound that harsh.....only that life is full of choices and we all have our stories. Pulling ourselves out of the muck is to be respected.......I really didn't have that much venom in my statement.
