He has the WBA title, and he has added another alphabet title. So is the Dane now the "WBA super champion"?

Does that mean Mundine will fight ?? for the "regular WBA title"?

Juan Manuel Marquez was the WBA/IBF featherweight king, & he was upgraded to super.

That whole deal is such a mess...they took Taylor's superchamp status for no reason, and now he's got the WBC and WBO, and Sturm was the WBA....yet they still have Taylor as their champ on the site last time I checked.

Easy to see why... Sauersausage has some sway in the WBA.

I like Hopkins. After he found out Joppy was the WBA 'regular' champ, 'super' Hopkins gives him a good beating!

After the Beyer fight, the WBC president said something about having a meeting with the WBA about it. I hadn't realized the WBC had really much to do with it. Probably something about coordinating politics and mandatories i guess.
Anyway he sounded pretty sure it would happen.

Ivan Caleron was made super champ (WBO minimumweight) by WBO rules.

The WBO is also the easiest belt to defend 10 times, and I don't think any takes their criteria seriously.

Kessler now becomes Super Champ under the WBA's rules if they adhere to them anyway.

doesn't Kessler have the choice to either accept the standard mandatory duties and remain the only WBA champ, or accept "Super-champ" status and have an extended period with which to defend against whomever ends up as regular champ?

Hattonw as given the choice when he beat Maussa.... I think they get the chance to choose which route they prefer, and due to the lack of activity with most champ they accept the super-champ rule so they have more time. IE: Acelino Freitas remained WBA champ when he beat Casamayor for WBA/WBO titles and didn't take Super-champ status.

pps: mind you - they have "Interim" titles in most divisions recently which is almost doing the same thing I guess.

Tszyu was the WBC Emeritus Champion at one stage wasn't he? Similar thing I think.

Yes, that was when he was stripped whilst inactive, allowing the WBC to make money out of Gatti vs Dorin/Leija. I think it was, anyhow.

Lennox wanted to have all 3 belts aftre the Evander fights - but didn't want to make his WBA mandate - so he suggested they create a super-champion who would have 18 months to accomodate each of his 3 mandatories. However the WBA agreed to it - WHILE STILL HAVING A REGULAR CHAMPION ASWELL. And the icing on the cake is that Lewis was still stripped of the WBA belt.

Hell. It's worst than I remember it. I do remember that King was getting his fighters ranked in the WBA in the hope of knocking off Lewis, or making him get so fed up of stilted mandatories that he would just give the title up.
