Blackpools finest father and son, Jack and Brian are two fighters that are rarely mentioned and often given little credit for their Boxing careers, which is slightly unfair as in my opinion they were both good, solid professional fighters who often mixed in very good company.

Jack in his long career fought the likes of Len Johnson, Larry Gains, Tommy Loughran, Buddy Baer, Jim Wilde, Tom Reddington, Freddie Mills, Ken Shaw and Bruce Woodcock, sometimes more than once. Sure he lost to some of them but not all. Thats not a bad list for a fighter who is sometimes forgotten.

Brian also fought with mixed results many a fine and great fighter such as Heinz Neuhaus, Willie Pastrano, Joe Erskine, Henry Cooper, Floyd Patterson, Nino Valdes, Pete Rademacher, Dick Richardson, Eddie Machen, Tom McNeeley, Ingemar Johansson, Johnny Prescott, Thad Spencer, Amos Johnson, Muhammad Ali, Jerry Quarry, Zora Folley, Jack Bodell, Henry Clark and Joe Bugner. Again another impressive list.

So between them the London family have really mixed it with a fine mix of the great and the good. Any other opinions, thoughts or memories?

Also who do you rate as the better fighter? father or son?

wasnt it the londons who were involved in that bout in porthcawl were it all just went off big time.

I think it was. I've seen that clip they show on the BBC a couple of times. It was on for young and old that afternoon! It was like a fekkin battle royale - everyone was into it! One bloke got flung out of the ring like a rag doll. Champagne TV.

Brian started the ruckus off and when it turned into a brawl and he was fighting off several people Jack joined in to assist.

On the original topic, I'd say Brian was better, but I have to admit that I've not seen any of Jack's fights, just basing my view on what my late uncle used to tell me!

It was Lithgo or Westgath, forget which one.

I 'd say it was Brian (the better boxer) fairly underrated fighter... had a good career, espacially considering that he never really liked boxing I believe... I read somewhere that he was always worried that he may end up punchy like some of his fathers freinds that he knew while growing up... I think he had a bit of a love/hate relationship with his dad as well who I believe liked a drink now and then...

has anyone seen jack london on film? jack seemed pretty big in his prime, around 230lb. i wonder if jacks size and strength would allow him to wear down brian in a fantasy fight

there was a jack jnr who was brians brother involved in the fighting as well, he was a useful light heavyweight apparently. richardson, londons opponent in the european title fight, opened a cut over brians eye in the eighth and the ref stopped the fight in his favour, the `two jacks` were incensed by the decision and walked over to richardsons corner to remonstrate about the cut.
things got out of hand and a free for all started which involved the three londons and just about anyone who got in there way including members of the audience.
brian was fined a 1000 quid and banned for 3 months but richardson was praised by the board for showing restraint.

Wasn't it Brian who said he was always afraid of getting cauliflower ears? Something he managed to avoid but at great cost to his nose.
