Scott Gammer voluntary..... who?

Over on the BBC Website; Scott Gammer's promoter, Paul Boyce, has discussed maybe making a voluntary defence in December before taking on Mandatory Danny Williams in February.

My question is who. Bear in mind the BBBoC have twice rejected Alan Bosworth (despite at one time winning an eliminator).... who, with the exception of Sprott, will the BBBoC sanction at Heavyweight.

If it is Sprott, then fantastic - as EU champion he is probably more deserving of his shot than Williams is.... However, I doubt Sprott will be too keen to futher lose his ranking with the EBU to fight Gammer on short notice.

So who else.

Surely they wouldn't sanction Krence again... when's the last time he won? McDermmot? Ellis? Steeds 3? Kenna? Llewellyn? Keith Long - after almost 2 years out?

Yes, I don't want to see another Junior Witter situation and Gammer get outright claim on the belt before his scheduled number of defence.... but I also cannot see any other than - Skelton, Harrison, Williams, and Sprott who are deserving of a title shot.

Carl Baker perhaps?

mmmm...........possibly I suppose, is putting on a decent run. Tony Booth might be in contention also for similar reasons.

There Scott Lansdowne and Martin Rogan (undefeated novice) but the barrell is being scrapped at all of these 4.

Sprott in my mind is the only respectable option. Quite why the bbbofc have put him into the English title leagues I do not know. Yes he's 3-3 after his last British title fight, but look at the opposition. You think Virchis is going to sqeak past Baker or McDermott?

It makes me shudder to think of who they might come up with as a voluntary. Baker, Butlin, McDermott, Llewelyn etc they all need an eliminator against someone else at the very least. Even then...it's a sad state of afairs. I'm personally on the verge of giving Rogan a shot in front of them all, and he's had 5 fights ffs. The bbbc should have sorted out another eliminator (more than one actually) by now, so that the winner is a) on hand to be a clear worthy(ish) voluntary, or likewise a fill-in if Williams pulled out.

It may be an option to get someone up from cruiser, but who I don't know.

Well the obvious Cruiser I can think of is Herbie Hide - but thats unlikely.

The rest of the British title level Cruisers are really quite small - I don't think Hobson's suspension will be finished, neither Lee Swaby's.

Neil Simpson? Ex Light Heavy, but pushing the 200 lbs mark recently.

But recently lost to Steeds... Steeds vs Gammer was about as one sided as it can get.... more onesided and you will have to call it a mismatch, and I don't think the title should be defended in a fight that even on paper looks like a mis match.

We had one of them fairly recently (McDermmot vs Skelton).... don't want too see many more. Don't really want to see many more Gammer vs Steeds esque contests.

But yes, of those mentioned - Kenna is up there.... but my point is should the BBBoC sanction anyone other than Sprott, Williams, Skelton and Harrison - unless they win a series of eliminators.

Martin Rogan is a bit green for a title shot at 5-0, Tim Witherspoon was over in Belfast recently helping promote the Andersonstown card tonight (October 26th) and claims Rogan can go "all the way". Quite what that means is beyond me, watching Rogan in with Darren Morgan i think a British or Commonwealth title shot a few more fights down the line is about "all the way" we can possibly hope for.

Didn't Tim say the same about Danny Toombs :TU:

Looking on the bright side, there is evidence to suggest that the British heavyweight scene is still better than its Hungarian equivelant. Gabor Gyuris last night won an eliminator curtesy of a win over 1-9 Norbert Turyani, who in turn was entering the eliminator with a one fight winning streak curtesy of a decision against 0-14 Gabor Czinke

I dont think he is eligible, not sure though. I doubt very much they would put him in with Gammer though even if he was.

Tells you a lot about Greenberg when they say his next opponent will be his toughest test

Would like to see a fit and focused Sprott get the shot.
Don't think it would be a great move by Gammer though,IMO Sprott beats him.But then as everyone has stated, just who else is there?

He can't have a voluntary. He has to fight Williams next.

If Williams ever wanted to get serious then Gammer is the best comeback opponent.

Assuming Williams goes through with the challenge !?

Sprott would seem the next best available, then Kenna would probably/possibly be worthy, but as Stujones says, this would look odd given the fact they knocked Bosworth back.

The heavyweight division really is dire now.

Anyone have the inside track on Williams' condition or lack of? Last I read he was refusing to train during Ramadan. Lord knows what his weight must be.

The only reasonable mandatory ouside Williams/Skelton/Harrison is Michael Sprott, Sprotts only defeats have been in Germany against
good opposition and would give Gammer a good fight though I don't
think Sprott has the legs to beat Gammer at this stage.

I think Steeds lack of experience showed in his fight vs Gammer
but I think Steeds can come back into the title picture at a later
date. McDermott, Mathew Ellis, Wayne Llewellyn and Colin Kenna
(I take it he is eligible as he was a southern area champion) would
make good title fights if they get more active and could spring an
upset, especially in my mind Ellis.

We have lots of good up and comers such as Martin Rogan, Ian Millarvie,
Darren Morgan as well as guys like Paul Butlin (who I've never seen
to be honest) and Scott Landsdowne who could put a spanner or 6 in
the works. We have a very healthy heavyweight divsion. Now all they
have to do is fight each other!

Yeah that's very true! Its is just a shame that often, after a loss they seem to go quiet for months. McDermott hasnt fought since the Skelton fight. Morgan since the Rogan fight and Kenna since the Chagaev fight. They need to get active and, as you say, fight each other!
