Bit of a strange signing, but over on fightnews it has been reported (and more or less confirmed with quotes from Frank) that Sports Network have signed David Guerault.

You may remember Guerault outclassing Ady Lewis and Jason Booth a few years back, he looked like a world champion in the making on both occasions - but just seem to blow it when he did step up, Guerault lost a challenge to Johnny Bredhal in 2003. He did win the EBU Flyweight and Bantamweight titles, so is a good level.

He now hold the EU Bantam title, but got whalloped in a round defending his EBU Bantam title against decent countrymen, Frederic Patrac.

At 33 I'm not really sure the reasoning behind the signature.... his best days are behind him and I don't know who SN have him in mind for. He is a good friend of Mbaye, so I am sure that has something to do with it.

From the quotes over in Fightnews, it sounds like Warren is branching out, and looking at signing French stars. Maybe one day we'll get a televised show from France!

"I'm delighted to have added David to my stable as we look to make an impact with our French stars over the next few months," said promoter allegedly. "David is a very talented boxer, and I'm confident I can deliver for him in the same way that I have delivered for Souleymane."

Christ I missed this one!

Guerault was a damn fine boxer, with a solid punch -- saw him beat Lewis, Booth, Wilders & Jesper Jensen... Wasn't Booth the only one out of that lot to last the full twelve?

Time has obviously not been kind... But still I'd love to see him again. I wonder if Frankie's planning a massive UK versus France boxing-style rerun of the Hundred Years War, with M'Baye versus Witter and er, Power versus Guerault, maybe? Forgive me I can't remember if Power's with SN or not.

Isn't it bizarre, on that note, that to keep up with boxing one has to memorise vast amounts of shite about who is in fealty to whom? Maybe one of the reasons mainstream fans ignore the game...
