I thought about posting this for quite some time with Lot's of boring crap about respect for boxers............but then i decided to cut to the chase........How many people who post constant derogatory comments on this site have entered the Ring for a real one on one exchange of power, mind and determination............................I'd wager very few

This doesn't mean that fighters are above criticism, though insulting them is wrong.
The problem I have with comments like yours is where does it end? Do only world champions have a right to an opinion? You are trying to create totalitarianism.

Couldn't agree more.

What I will say is that I don't like people saying things like 'This fighter is a pussy and a fag etc', to me that does cross the line, especially if you've never been anywhere a ring yourself.

BUT as Andy here was pretty much saying, we might as well close down this forum if we aren't allowed to pass comment or judgement on fighters unless we have the prerequisite experience!

At the end of the day we (the fans) pay the fighters wages so they have to like or lump it to a degree!

I think the vast majority of posters here, whether they've had boxing experience or not, realise that boxers of whatever level demand repect just for turning up in the ring. I think, or at least hope, that this is actually a given for everyone. And as Goz says, the few who rip apart someone or suggest they're a pussy etc. for taking a beating in a ring are just stupid.

In the case of Mitchell last night, it's putting things into context. You don't want to slam Ashie or say he's crap outright, but for whatever reason, Mitchell's been hyped (whether by the promotor or just the fans) as a future world champ. As such, people are going to expect him to deal convincingly with guys like Ahie, but as he was given a tough fight, he came accross as sub-'his station,' and as a result he's getting criticism.

Half the enjoyment of sport is being a critic! I'm sure everyone has respect for the dedication and bravery it takes to climb into the ring, but that has nothing to do with anyone's right to voice their opinions (be they critical or otherwise).

I'm down with everyone but the thread starter (and as we appear to have had one or two problems on the current scene with translation between Hip-hop and English, "down with" in this context means "I support wholly your conclusions & arguments").

The vast majority of the public have never earnt a living out of football either but they still know a poor performance/player when they see one and pass their comments/opinions as appropriate..

I definately follow the school of thought that George and Arethea certainly didn't meet during the video for "knew you were waiting".

In my view many people on this board have boxed at some level, the issue however is that while you get brave bastards like Peter Buckley using what talent they have week in week out people find it galling when people like Calzaghe who have bags of talent don't use it against the best.

Also where is the respect for the fans who put the bread on there table? I would never disrespect a fighter who does what he says and wants to take on the best, I may have a view that some will loose but that doesn't stop me respecting what they do and there willingness to fight.
