Robert Guerrero V Orlando Salido

"The Ghost" makes his first defence of the IBF Featherweight crown he won off Eric Aiken on Saturday against slippery Mexican Orlando Salido. Salido and Juan Manuel Marquez fought out a dull affair on the De La Hoya-Hopkins supporting bout a couple of years ago and i have not seen Salido fight since.
Guerrero is an up and coming relentless southpaw who likes to attack the body and sometimes lower (just ask Aiken!) He overwhelms opponents with a high pace and ferocity and the only loss on his 19-1-1 record was avenged versus Gamaliel Diaz. Guerrero is a vicious but educated brawler but having watched his fight with Aiken i think a straight up boxer with a bit of a dig would give him problems. Aiken was overeliant on power and fought the wrong fight before retiring on his stool after the eighth round.
I would pick Guerrero by late stoppage. This fight is on the undercard of Mayweather-Baldomir. Any thoughts?

I've seen Salido's last fight - unfortunately learned nothing from it as it was a mismatch. I have also seen his bout previous (vs Mtagwa) but I cannot remember what I thought of him. It was on the same bill where Kevin Payne lost consciousness and later died on the first fight of the card. The handling of the situation was attrocious. Payne was recieving medical career at the side of the ring, the next fight was delayed by about 10 minutes, Kevin was still recieiving some attention when the next fight started.
If you are intending to put a bet on, I'll have a look at the Mtwaga fight and let you know.
Judging by the Marquez fight, I think a point win for Guerrero looks about right.

There was so much action on last night it's hard to keep up, seems Guerrero lost a convincing split to Salido. That more or less puts his limitations into perspective, after watching him in with Aiken i wasn't totally convinced to be honest.
I fell asleep while this fight was on, was proper knackered. Anyone watch it? How did it pan out?

Guerrero let me down. Smothered most of his work and was getting outworked by Salido. He would do best when boxing on outside but just kept getting beat to the punch on the inside. There was lots of holding as they were both tired by the 8th but Salido easily won atleast 8 rounds. I posted a few updates of the fight here,

Thought maybe Guerrero was an accident waiting to happen, he smothered his work against Aiken too and he was just too fresh and relentless that night overwhelming his man. Aiken's sporadic successes showed that Guerrero was beatable with the right tactics, sounds like Salido emplyed them

The Featherweights seem to keep having one champ after another!
Maybe some of ours like Matthews and Morris are in with a chance eventually in the future.

Salido fails steroid test!
IBF featherweight champion Orlando Salido, who dethroned Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero this past Saturday, has tested positive for steroids. Salido has 20 days to respond. If he contests the result, he'll be required to attend a hearing in Las Vegas where the outcome of the fight would likely be changed to a no-contest. As a result, Guerrero could be reinstated as champion or at the very least get an immediate title shot. “I hit this guy with some nice shots early in the fight and he didn’t budge," said Guererro. "Usually when I hit guys with shots like that, they slow down. It had me thinking. It’s sad that he had to go to desperate measures in order to compete with me. I just thank Jesus Christ for coming out of this fight unharmed. The Nevada Athletic Commission is doing a great job because everyone who steps in the ring puts their life on the line. I’m just happy that my next fight will be a world championship fight. I’m fighting at the elite level in boxing and it’s a shame that Salido would have to use steroids to compete."

The Ghost is shite and I could never understand the hype about him. Disgusted when I heard the other guy got done for steroids.

This is what happens when the rightful champion - JM Marquez - gets stripped. None of these guys are worthy champs, and Salido just confirmed this. Only way he could rise above the general mediocrity was because he was on the bloody steroids.
Perrera, Aiken, Guerrero, Salido, are all way below Marquez and Chris John.

Your correct, it makes the phrase "world champion" even more diluted when you get these mediocre fighters claiming to be the best at the weight by way of holding the alphabet titles. It begs the question...are the "big 3" really any more credible than the rest of the fake titles?

Salido is now protesting the decision. Apparently, he has taken an "independent" test the day after and it came negative.
Not saying he is innocent, but maybe the criticism he recieved were a little premature.
