Did anyone read about this one?
Anyway, thoughts on the fight??

Jees, I wish someone would look after Sprott, where is his promoter.
Tough fight in Germany, Dettweiller's is okay. A bit stiff and I don't think will mount to much, but in Germany on a week or so notice (I imagine Dettweiller was preparing to fight on the undercard)- it could be difficult.
I know the EU title isn't much, but its the stepping stone to the EBU title - whose current champion is a fighter Sprott is well capable of beating and should start the favourite at home vs.

hmm.
It's replacing the Huck fight, who pulled out with an injury. I'm sure you're right though stu - Dettweiller had a slot anyway.
He is pretty average though. I don't think he'll stop Sprott, and I'd say he's beatable, but this is dependant on what sort of performance Sprott can put on. He's blown hot and cold of late, and I don't know a week's notice will help. Good money though, granted.
btw, is this a typo in the schedule that the fight is 12 rds? EU fights are normally 10 rounds, and I wouldn't have thought they'd move Dettweiler up from 8 to 12.

The EU distance was changed from 10 to 12 rounds a couple of months back.
The Dettweiler vs Sprott fight will be the shown live on ARD from 22.10 to 00.30 (CET). They will also show Koc vs Hoffmann, it doesnt look like they will show anything from Akinwande vs Platov.

Dettweiler's record is pretty shit, this is a big stepup for him. Having said that what sort of shape is Sprott in? Will be interesting to see his weight later in the week.

Who cares about Sprott anymore? Hes now taken the Julius Francis short notice out of shape journeyman loser role.
I cant see how any one could care about Sprott. Guys been thrown to the wolves.

I guess he's making decent money and that's prob what its all about for him these days. And who can begrudge him a few paydays?

Not me.
But its sort of depressing.
Id have rather have him rebuild himself in the UK clubbing over a few journeyman rather than match a guy obviously lacking in confidence with tough opponents overseas again & again.

Hmm, I think you are being a little unfair to Michael, but I see your point.
His recent record reads ok, certainly not Julius Francis territory yet. He was over-matched with Chaglev most recently, however prior to that had won by a shut-out and previously "beat" Virchis.
The weigh-in will tell us a lot about his intentions on this winnable fight.
With regards to getting back into the UK scene, purse bids close next week on his English Title fight against Carl Baker.

The power went off the in the whole Essen/Mülheim area so the card is delayed. Im not able to do a real round by round. They are in round 5 now and Sprott should be leading on the cards.

Round 12 coming up. Overall it seems like Sprott is winning, but I havent scored the rounds. Commentator saiad one of them needs to get a KO to win, but I didnt hear who he talked about. Its a rather dull fight.

So Sprott just won the same title he picked up a few fights back.
If he could get a rematch with Virchis for the EBU title, a win there would put Sprott back on the map. I'd like to see him challenge Gammer for the British title, but if he could skip straight to the EBU then that would be great.

In a bout delayed 30 minutes by a power outage, heavyweight Michael Sprott (29-10, 14 KOs) won a controversial twelve round split decision over previously unbeaten Rene Dettweiler (18-1, 9 KOs) in an EU heavyweight title clash at the RWE Rhein-Ruhr Sporthalle in Mülheim/Ruhr, Germany. Dettweiler seemingly outworked the former British champion in most rounds, especially down the stretch as Sprott tired badly. However Sprott was never really hurt in the bout and judges felt he did enough to win 116-112, 114-112 on two cards. Dettweiler won on the third card 115-111.
A SD is going to be controversial.
When a reporter on fightnews uses that term and "seemingly outworked" he's usually implying that someone was robbed.

Neither Dettweiler or his coach had any problems with the dec. Dettweiler said he learned alot from the fight and will come back stronger in the future.

Sprott should fight Gammer next. He had some tough fights recently good oppostion better than any other british heavyweght. been robbed against Virchis current euro champ. Gammer v sprott be a good fight.

I think Sprott is competing at a step up from British level these days.
Fighting Gammer would be a backwards step for him.
Gammer is'nt highly rated and Sprott probably gets very well paid for his fights in europe.
