Hi gents,

pretty simple: is anything other than Calzaghe-Kessler in February a complete waste of time for JC's next fight. Do we (the hardcore boxing fans) accept anyone else at all - or do we say that Joe can avoid him as long as he challenges for a 12st 7lbs title?

Personally - the only name which will satisfy me, as a fistic fan, is Kessler.

I don't care about money, TV rights, promotional rights, home advantage, or anything else. For every fight there is ALWAYS a way around those problems....no exceptions (at any weight, or country, or management etc).

Your opinions please?

You're pissing in the wind mate. Calzaghe Kessler in feb. 2 problems.

1) Kessler is out injured until March (rib injury)

2) kessler has been ordered to fight Andrade next (by the WBC) or they'll strip him, his team have agreed.

So in short Kessler Calzaghe wont happen until the earliest July / August of 2007. We can kick and sulk and whinge all we want but it wont happen.

I'd be happy with Woods, Taylor, Hopkins (yeah right) all for very different reasons.

I hope it's not Woods, it would be a fun domestic scrap and one I'd enjoy watching if I was confident that it would be followed by Kessler or Taylor. However I fear SN would bill it as a super fight and we'd have to put up with a Bika style opponent in his next fight. Also I really want to see calzaghe Kessler and if he got Wood's IBF LHW belt I'm not sure he's come back down to SM. Be a nice payday for Woods though.

Seems to get injured worse than Calzaghe!

Providing Joe does fight Kessler before he retires then of course we could/should except another decent opperator either at 12 stone or 175.

Taylor, HOPKINS, Woods, Erdei, Wright, Adameck - not just acceptable but damn good opponents.

Tarver, Jones Jnr, Dawson, Johnson, Briggs, Green, Mundine.... even Beyer, Froch etc - would be acceptable opponents.

Lower and we are getting back to the Bika, Veit level - not really acceptable.

Its up to Joe WHEN he fights Kessler, if he wants to risk him being too old or Kessler getting upset - then thats his problems and that will be his legacy down the swany, but aslong as they do meet (or if Taylor fights and beats Kessler, then he fights Taylor).

A light-heavyweight champ would do in case Kerssler is injured. Adamek-Erdei-Woods (in this order).

I agree with half of that... I think Johnson, but I think the IBF Light Heavyweight title will be in the equation somewhere - either eliminator or interim.

With the "winner" (think we know who it will be) fighting Woods in the Summer.

In the confrence last week Jose Sulaiman said team Andrade allowed Kessler to fight Bayer as long as they were guarenteed the next crack at the title. The WBC would therefor enforce Kessler Andrade next as part of the deal, part of their agreement.
Team Kessler submitted a letter stating Kessler would be injured and out until earliest March next year with a rib injury.
The WBC agreed that discussions on Andrade Kessler, purse bids etc.. would be done in December / January.

I only really want to see the Kessler fight. If he steps up now he will forever be accused of ducking the best in the division. For his legacy he needs that fight more than any other. Worry about the Light Heavies after Kessler!

Same here. The other names listed here are like "OK, if Kessler isn't available in early 2007 why shouldn't he fight these to stay busy", but Kessler Calzaghe is the only Calzaghe fight that would really interest me.

Yeah, if he needs to keep busy there are options but this is the one career defining fight. I really hope it does work out, I truely believe that Joe is one of Britain's best ever and this fight would go a long way to confirming that.

Fighting Johnson would be a disgrace.

I just said they would be acceptable.

Personally, I think the only time SN will mention Kessler is when he's injured.

Now they are on seperate 'plot threads'. The Kessler thread will be the one worth following. What would anyone rather watch?

Calzaghe vs Stieglitz/Manfedo (i.e. European level mandatory / green American)?

I don't see why you are so big on Andrade. Manfredo has looked a beast at 168 in his last two fights. He's a completely different fighter than we saw on Contender. If it weren't for Andrade's freakish size, I would favour Peter to beat him, much better boxing ability.

I have an idea!! . How about Warren giving Froch 1 months notice to fight joe.

If he can he should fight Taylor, then Kessler, then retire. That's the only way he'll get the kind of legacy he wants.
