Prime RJJ v Prime Tyson

I know this is not a fair fight given the huge weight advantage, but given RJ's blistering speed / skills i think this fight would have been very competitive. As long as RJ didnt go on the ropes, cos if he did Tyson would have crushed him. If RJ could keep moving for the full 12 rounds he may win on points. If Tyson gets in too close its all over. Any thoughts?

Roy would have been out in 3,then in hospital for a considerable amount of time.
If the magic man can KO you like he did(don't care how far past his prime he was at the time)then a prime Tyson has serious chances of ending you!!!!

Roy was never a cruiser. Tyson would have some fun trying to catch up to Roy for a round or two but once he did Roy might never get up.

Prime Jones was a Supermiddleweight. Prime Tyson was a beast.

Tyson KO1.

Sorry but a ridiculous topic.

This could be similar to the great Windshield Bugsplat incident of 1906. Terrible mess ya know. They don't like to talk about it in civilized societies.

Although I am one of the biggest Jones pundits out there this match-up is just silly! Tyson by quick and brutal knockout! You got to remember...Tyson was one of, if not the fastest handed heavyweight in history, so Jones' speed would not play a big part. Not even a close fight!

Tyson, huge KO with the first punch he lands. No MW in history moving up could survive a round with the peak Tyson, look what he did to Mike Spinks FFS

Not even close.

Tyson would have pulverised him.

RJJ may be have been blisteringly quick, but Tyson wasn't far behind, much more powerful, aggressive & tougher.

Tyson KO 1, easily.

You're all underrating Roy Jones. I think he could pull off an upset here and stop Tyson late. Jones' chin was pretty solid and he was much faster than Tyson, able to keep away from his wild attacks. Tyson's chin was below average... He was knocked out in five of his six losses. Jones' power would get to him.

Yeah, I can't see Tarver or Johnson knocking Tyson out myself.

Tyson KO1

Tyson's chin wasn't all that bad. It took most guys several rounds of solidly landed shots to knock him down. His desire to continue a fight in which he wasnt in total control of was his downfall. Id say Tyson had a good chin, not great but certianly not bad.

Tyson had a very good chin he's been hit by some big punchers and never been out cold. The only weakness he had in that area was once hurt by a shot he didn't recover too well. Holyfield knew this, and once he had Tyson hurt he just didn't stop throwing punches till he was down. Williams did the same thing to the ghost of Tyson that he fought.

Statistics don't lie. Jones had a better chin than Tyson.

I seem to remember Tyson hitting former cruiserweight Holyfield with several big punches without Holyfield flinching, and Tyson had a 7lb weight advantage, an advantage Tyson very rarely got.

Yes Jones has been KTFO but you can certainly argue he was past his best, the same as Tyson was past his best when being stopped by McBride and Williams.

I still think Tyson would win though but I don't think it would be as easy as everyone has been saying. Tyson got easily frustrated when fights didn't go as planned (ie. quick wins) and he run out of ideas when opponents didn't crumble before him. RJJ certainly had the skill, speed, boxing ability and power to give Tyson a few problems. Tyson could be outboxed and RJJ was certainly capable of outboxing Tyson.

Another thing to remember was RJJ at his peak and bulked up would have been one of the best fighters Tyson would have ever faced. Yes Tyson blew away many heavys but he didn't fight many great ones. Old timers like Tillis and Smith had him looking very ordinary and both took him the distance.

RJJ would not have stood in front of Tyson he would have been on his toes and boxed. I think however that Tyson would eventually catch up with RJJ and stop him in the middle rounds.

Jones wasn't taking punches from 240 lb heavyweights though was he (Forget the handslapper Ruiz in his only HW bout)

Even then Tyson took some brutal shots from Lewis before eventually going down
