On PPV tomorrow. Who wins this one then?

Has Holyfield got what it takes to beat Fres Oquendo, big step up from Bates.

If he loses, it's pretty much retire.

Fres didn't look good against Bispo and some say he has a shakey chin.

Holyfield will have the crowd behind him bigtime, which could affect the judges scoring if it goes the distance...

Will Oquendo be too fast and young?

BTW Holyfield is the clear dog +180

Quiet on the Holyfield front then eh, I haven't seen any threads on current scene either, yet Tyson's world tour of bums sparked loads of interest...

Come on!!! Don't believe it, Holyfield is still as shot as he was when he lost to Larry Donald. Can't believe some knowledgeable guys like Graham Houston are buying into this. Holyfield looked like shit whenever he fought decent opposition, he looked good battering Bates because Bates was basically shit, even an ageing Holy can walk through that sort of opponent.

As soon as he moves back in with a live contender he loses!

Holyfield will get beaten here, I'm sure of it. Jeremy Bates was total crap, and I even thought Holyfield was on the verge of punching himself out before the ref stopped it. Evander is done, done done.

I have to admit, I was VERY pleasantly surprised with the movements of Holyfield during the Bates bout. Okay... Bates was a bum, but Holy look decent.

Whether Holy would have sustained it or not is a crucial factor... He looked "Back" for 2 rounds vs Toney. He did seem pretty tired as the ref waved the Bates fight off.

Oquendo has a decent chin and some good skills. Despite his inactivity I do see him as a GENIUNE top ten fighter. If Holyfield beats him, then I will buy his excuse that its been injury that has been his major problem and I would favour him over 2 if not 3 champions.

Massive test for the "new" Evander Holyfield..... If he passes it, he should be considered a serious threat to the title. I believe Oquendo already is.

I can see Evander getting stopped in 5 or 6 rounds... he even looked a little shaky when taking some punches from Bates!... he could well get hammered tonight, it won't be pretty...

I fear Holyfield could well end up making Oquendo look devastating here.

Holyfield wins UD, 116-111 and 114-113 twice. Oquendo KD'd in the 1st.

Apparently a pretty plodding fight. Holy helped by the KD. To quote fightnews Fres had an "awkward workmanlike style." Quite a few close rounds that could have gone either way, so some had Oquendo winning by 3 or 4 but no cries of absolute corruption. However, you do sense Holyfield would have got a decision had he lasted the distance anyway.

"awkward workmanlike style" just about sums up Oquendo. Not made of thrill, but is always a tricky customer, and Holyfield "beat" him. He also picks up the IBF's USBA title.

I don't know what to make of Holy's return, but I know one thing - I don't want him in with a belt holder. I can sadly see Holyfield-Valuev some time next year though, which really would be awful. He (Evander) fights again in January on the Hatton card.

bottom line does NOT equal "sparking loads of interest"!!

bottom line=PPV numbers & i paid so little interest to the laughable tyson freakshow i honestly dont know if it was on PPV or not...since i only follow REAL boxing!! but if that freak show of mikey's was on PPV i guarantee it did far less than holyfield-oquendo!!

I didn't even know Holy was fighting.

Well, I disagree.... whilst I am not saying two wins makes Holyfield worthy of a title shot. I think it shows he would be competitive against at least two of the champions.

Oquendo is better than Monte Barrett who gave Valuev a few problems. I would tip Oquendo over Briggs and Maskaev.

The score cards indicate a close fight, so at least Holyfield now appears to be competitive at that level again.

So what do all the Oquendo all the way posters have to say now :)

Well most of you were way off. Not once did Holyfield come close to getting stopped. In the opening seconds Holyfield's first punch thrown knocked Oquendo down. Overrall a dull slow fight that suited Holy. Oquendo was moving around alot and refused to trade, mostly jabbing and throwing rights at range. Holy would do better when he got inside, alot of close rounds but by no means a robbery. Though 116-111 was stretching it. Evander said he plans on returning in Janurary.

Well lets be honest, Fres is hardly the next Ali is he, I think much of it is down to Fres being so bad rather than Evander being so good. Credit to Holyfield he does seem to have got into great shape and the rest has probably recharged his batteries a bit but I think once he steps up to title level he'll come unstuck, though having said that if he gets a shot at Briggs I'd give him a chance of winning that one...

Not seen it yet. But I can't believe Evander - as he is now - would have been put in with a customer as tricky / ugly as Oquendo.

That's pretty funny, a few on here didn't give Holy a chance of beating Bates. Holy got the job done. Again, almost everyone on here were saying Oquendo will win, most likely by stoppage.

Fres is a decent fighter capable of beating top 20 guys. This was a big step up for Holy and he passed, not once did Evander look like being stopped. Not many gave Holy a chance of beating Bowe or Tyson either.
