Maladrottu vs Kelly 2.

This fight is creeping around very soon now. Less than two weeks away.
Just wandering if anyone knows the TV situation on this. I doubt it is on Sky or ITV.... will it be on Irish TV, or Italian TV? God I hope Kelly doesn't get shafted this time.
Also, did any of the posters who got to see RTE2's coverage of Dunne vs Pickering tape the whole show.... if yes, can you send me a PM.

This fight is a dead cert UD for Maludrottu, Kelly lacks the power to stop him and if he got shafted that bad in Belfast......

Thats the bloody problem with the sport. The fact you know the results of some fights before they happen because of where they are happening and not what is going to happen in them. Happens in the UK as well. I thought that Argentinian boy got shafted against Earl.
That would be a good thread. Top ten fighters who got shafted abroad.

There's boxing on Europsport of some discription on Saturday. Don't know if this would cover the Kelly fight though

Really hope Kelly wins this one as he is one of my favourite active Boxers. He should have earned 10 times what Audley Harrison has earned but that's Boxing.
Kelly is really up against it going in against a naturally bigger man in Italy. Kelly is though a complete professional and I am sure he will give it his best shot.

If Kelly does pull it off (unlikely in Italy) what about himself and Dunne in Dublin for the European super bantam title or would that be a step too far in terms of weight for the little Belfast man. He deserves a good payday out of the sport though.

I think if Kelly doesn't win there is more of a chance of it happening. Think Dunne might be too big, but a good fight for the purist. Dunne reminds me alot of a young Kelly.
Dunne vs McCullough is more likely.
Kelly vs McCullough. The two big Irish fighters in the last 10 years, what a fight that would be atmosphere wise... Kelly would probably prefer Wayne to Dunne, cause Dunne is a big Super Bantam.

From the BBC.
Belfast boxer Damaen Kelly was beaten by Simone Maludrotto for the second time this year as the Italian defended his European bantamweight crown.
The fight in Sardinia ended in the third round when Kelly's corner threw in the towel to stop the bout.
Kelly had started well but a sharp right hand in the third left him reeling and, as Maludrottu piled on the punches, Kelly's team stepped in.
In April, Kelly had gone 12 rounds with Maludrotto, who won on points.
Kelly was unlucky not to have been awarded Maludrotto's bantamweight title at that attempt in Belfast as he had out-boxed the Italian for much of the contest.
The Belfast boxer was aiming to become the first Irishman to win European titles at two different weights.

reminds me of Orlando Canizales v Billy Hardy fights, Hardy lost a close controversial decision in the fight fight in his home town, in the return he was outclassed and stopped in Canizales hometown.
At the moment we've got quite a few quality boxers who can no longer make Flywieght and Bantam is a bit to big for them, maybe time to have a series of fight at the superfly limit for them , you've got Kelly, Haskins and Robinson

That first performance by Billy has to go down as an awesome effort - Orlando Canizales is one of the smoothest, most complete fighters ever to grace these shores.
When he fought the rematch it was in searing heat, which cant have helped old carrot knackers Billy. Still, he went out on his shield in that one!
Its a real shame that Damaen couldnt get revenge for that horrible decision last night but at least it sounded free from controversy..

In their first match you have seen Maludrottu worst performance ever, now he is back in shape and he has destroyed Kelly during 3rd round. The fights was stopped by the refere when he was really groggy.
Now Muludrottu will vacated the european belt to attack WBA or WBC title, so Kelly may have a second chance to became european champ.

I dont think working full-time has helped Kelly... you cant really afford to do that at the top level of boxing. Its just a real shame that Kelly has never made any big money, theres quite a few big domestic matches that he could have had over the years which might have raised his profile and brought in some bigger money, ...looking over his career I cant help feeling that Kelly has been somewhat mismanaged and promoted over the years...

Probably hasn't helped him, but wining the titles he has had, it's strange he didn't have enough to be a full time pro while he's active anyway.
His manager is Glimour though.

Kelly has announced his retirement. By the sounds of it, maybe he should have retired in after the first Maldrottu defeat cause it doesn't like like his heart was in this return.

With hindsight it does seem that his heart may not have been in the game for his last fight.
It's a crime that a fighter of Kellys quality had to take a full time job as he is one of the best 'Boxers' this country has produced in recent years.
I wish him a long, healthy and happy life in his Boxing retirement.
He has been a joy to watch.
