Morales is a great great warrior but it looks like all the hard fights have caught up with him. The weight he had to lose to get down to the limit cant have helped either..

Shame to see him go out like this but all credit to PAcman, he fought like a whirling dervish.

Thought it was quite sad at first seeing the worn warrior fight off his heels. Hoped - like before the second fight - it wouldn't go late, but it was soon apparent there was little chance of that this time round... in honesty, I think he knew himself what this fight was all about - getting it out his system by going out a warrior. Even not at 100%, he seemed so settled with the outcome. Top Rank gave him a great run and hopefully he's on his way back to Tijuana tonight with a rather large retirement cheque.

thanks for the link. manny got caught with some good shots from a fading morales, which made me think that he will get picked off by a very good back foot jabber but i have since thought again and i'm gonna put that down to manny knowing very early on that he could walk through morales best shots to get his own in and finish it.

Shame that Morales has gone out like that, though in another way he went down like the warrior he is... I felt that he was fading as far back as the 3rd Barrera fight as he didnt seem to have all the gears anymore in that fight.... I hope he's been wise with his money and gets out now....

He would have gained catharsis by 'fighting himself out', I reckon. Hope so, anyway.

And if it was his last performance, it was in a way fitting he was spectacluarly blown out. How many fights has he either made, or been part of the spectacle? El Terrible!..

For me he's been the most exciting fighter out there for the past 10 years aside from Gatti... I know most people rate Barrera above him now but Morales has always been my favourite fo the two and I respect his decision never to adopt a safer style of fighting like Barrera has... though its probably shortened his career nobody can say he was ever less than 100% warrior...

I hope that Morales can walk away now. He was at least beaten by a terrific fighter, and for my money the top man in the sport pound for pound. Mayweather may have the silky skills, but Pacman has consistently looked for the biggest fights out there, despite the fact he has continued moving up the weights.

Pacman seems stronger and better than ever at 130, and I can see him moving to lightweight given that he is weighing in well above that on fight night. He could probably compete at 140 given his speed and punching power, though how he would take the shots that came back is a big question.

Yes it is very sad to see a fighter of Morales' ilk go out like that, and I can understand the sentiment behind the posts here and on the current forum. It brings back memories, when I was a kid, watching (one of my most favourite fighters) the great Alexis Arguello fighting Aaron Pryor II. The end of the line appeared to be up in the first fight, but he tried to retrieve and roll back the years when he was at his sublime best, and I waited in anticipation but it was not to be. He too, in that fight, ended sat on the canvas, like Morales, seeming to know that his magnificent career was over. I salute Morales for an absolutely great career that will always be remembered in the annuls of boxing history.

I dont know how great Pacquaio is at the moment but having watched a lot of boxing for many years I think he is the most significant fighter in the world right now. He has chased down the very best fighters out there without any easy fights in between. His speed, strength, power and ability to combine all these ingredients behind his southpaw stance (he makes opponents look awkward), with good upper and lower body movement makes him the most formidable fighter in the world at present.

There was a moment after Morales was shaken by a big shot and he started to give some back to Pac. I felt 5 years ago that would have been the start of yet another back and fourth war but sadly I think Erik has nothing left in the tank.

Does anyone else think Morales didn't believe in his heart he could win and instead of fighting a smart fight and boxing and risk getting taken out late he decided to see if he could ko Pac going toe-toe early

Also Pacs on Roids (but he has been for years) - I'm saying that looking at his thin skin (1 side effect) and ability to maintain muscle and get such a low bodyfat

I think Morales tried to box, then the first time when he got caught and dropped he realised he wasn't going to be able to keep it at range and tried desperately to turn the tide.

Morales is an intelligent guy, hopefully he'll retire now, he's got nothing left to prove. I can't see him moving up in wieght as he's tried lightweight and lost there as well.

How can people say Pac easily makes feather or super feather if he goes into the ring weighing that much!

Pac has a very good physical conditioner in Justin Fortune, a former fighter and then bodybuilder I believe, who obviously knows how to cut lot of water from Pacman at the weigh in, and then rehydrate him correctly for fight night.

There was virtually no water in PAC's body in those photographs, you could see all the veins under the skin, a classic side effect of cutting water.

However, as Pacman has always looked absolutely in top gear come the fight, we can only assume this is being done very scientifically.

Where does this figure of 144 come from anyway? Is it reliable?

Is that the same Justin Fortune that fought Lennox Lewis?
I remember it being a pretty brutal KO, but Fortune did give it his all before that, Lewis towered above him and outweighed him by loads as well.

I read a interview with Fortune a while ago, he was pretty good entertainment in that.

i think morales had a little voice inside his head saying "ok erik, try one or two big shots but dont for christ sake take too many from this guy" normally, he would ignore that advice and give back as good as he got but
thankfully this time he listened and i hope he keeps listening when that voice says its time to quit.
