If you could interview former World Champion Jimmy McLarnin, who, by the way, is still kicking it, what would be some of the more pressing questions you would ask him?

I am taking a "road trip" late next week and I may try to drop by McLarnin's home in eastern Washington state with a little hand-held tape-recorder and ask him a few things. That's if I'm lucky to find him home, and if he'll even see me.

Ric... I would like to know who he thought was better, Tony Canzonari or Barney Ross.

I am sorry I didn't have a chance to reply sooner for your interview with the Great Jimmy McLarnin, I would have asked you to ask him who was a better fighter between Barney Ross and his stablemate Davey Day, who by the way was the first guy to send Henry Armstrong to the hospital even though he was half blind from the sixth round th the 12th.

I am so jealous of what you're going to do.

One of the articles I had put on the top of my list to do was one about McLarnin, since I admired him so much as a fighter, and I had heard he was still alive and living in the Seattle area.

How could a fighter as good as he was...who Barney Ross said would have beaten Robinson-- have gone through his life with so little attention and appreciation?

Well, if I'm not going to do it, at least I'll look forward expectantly to your piece.

Did you ever get the interview?

as its been said a bit late for the questions. However it makes me think of a situation where if i had the opportunity who would i visit . As far as UK boxers go it must be Henry Cooper.

The question I've always wanted to ask him was how he thought he would have done against Armstrong. McLarnin retired suddenly not too long before Armstrong beat Ross for the welterweight title but I have always thought McLarnin matched up better against Hammerin' Hank than Ross did.

What if McLarnin had received the 1st shot at the title Armstrong won from Ross? How does Jimmy think that fight would have played out?

I'd love to hear his answer!!
